My Outdoor Motion Sensor Woke Me Up

As I'm getting dressed I heard someone at my door. First the door knob, then knocking. Knocking harder.., followed by a text from a parent, "Will you unlock the door?" More knocking. I reply, "Give me a minute." More knocking. I unlock the door at 5:30am.

PARENT: Where were you?
ME: In the apartment upstairs.
PARENT: Why didn't you unlock the door?
ME: Do you start work early because someone else is early? I don't.
PARENT: It's cold out there.
ME: You contractually have 30 minutes drop off time. You only work 10 minutes from here. You might consider sleeping more, that's what I tried to do. (I then smiled as I took the baby.)
PARENT: I'm sorry. I figured with the the weather....
ME: Nope. Do you want to contract for more time?
PARENT: No.

(As she leaves I high five the baby & tell her mommy won't do that again!)

She would have stood outside for a half hour with her cold self.Do you have an opening time or contracted times.Can you charge her a fee?

She has to be at work at 6am & was at my door at 5:10am. My contract gives a parent half an hour before/after work for drop off/pick up. I live in a small town & I can run to the other side of it in less than a half an hour. I only have a dollar a minute late fee, but once I did ask a parent if they wanted to pay that for early drop off time. (She wanted to stop by Walmart before work.) She declined & said she would wait in her car. BAM!

Yikes! How do you know when the first child will be there in the morning? So you don't actually have a set "open" time? I guess I'm a big meanie because they can't come even one minute early.I open at 7:00a.m. but still do contracted times. So if your drop off is at 8:00a.m. and you need to come earlier they have to ask 24 hours in advance and get approval.
I do give a 15 minute grace period for pick up.
