So this morning I had my 2 year continuing inspection, no biggie-I thought, it was scheduled, everything was ready. I keep everything up to date so didnt even have to prepare much for it. HOWEVER, this was my first inspection with my new specialist! Took 2 1/2 HOURS!!!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!! My kids were cranky, hungry, all of the above by the time it was over! Just blows my mind that they think the kids won't need much from me for that long. My other lady was in and out in an hour tops, this one looked through every cabinet, checked every latch to make sure it worked, ugh!!!

Don't feel too bad, I had one once that lasted all day. I'm pretty sure he was planning on staying for dinner, until I asked him to finish up and leave.

I had one 6 yrs ago, when I moved to this house, that took forever. Finally, I told her to please do what she needed to do, but I had to get lunch on the table. She seemed irritated at first, then went back to her computer while I made lunch and got the kids ready to eat.

She was irritated with me because she didn't do her job right. I called her 3 times before I moved, telling her about when we would be moving, then calling and giving her our new phone number and address. She called 6 mos later to do an inspection, using our new phone number, but old address. I was in violation because she didn't come to do an inspection prior to the kids coming here. What more could I have done? I called her on 3 different occassions.

She's the one who popped me for toothpaste and handsoap in the bathroom.

Just who you want to stay for dinner.

What do you mean by this......you got wrote up for having toothpaste and handsoap in a bathroom? If so, how rediculous.

Yes, in CA, you cannot have anything accessible to the kids that says "Keep out of reach of children". That means toothpaste, lotions, and handsoaps that have that on their labels have to be in a locked cabinet.

I knew it, but had forgotten about it.

Handsoaps? How do they wash their hands?! With water only? And most childcare providers are encouraged to have the children brush their teeth. How would they brush their teeth without tooth paste?

Yup that's the way they are in CA. I asked the same question about the handwashing and I was told that it had to either be locked or above 5 feet and out of sight. Every time we have to wash our hands I just pull it out of a high cabinet (in the bathroom). When we're in the kitchen I pull up a stepstool and we use the pump-soap dispenser. Rediculous, yes I know. We're also the ones that can't use excersaucers, walkers or bouncy chairs.

Can you use a pump dispenser in the bathroom? That is what I have in mine and they have never said anything but I'm not in CA so that may be a different rule all together.

not only can we not have these items, we can't even store the baby saucers and seats on the premises or use them for our own babies!

I believe that it's one of the Dial soaps that doesn't say "Keep out of reach of children." I'll have to check.

IMHO, the bouncy seat and exersaucer rule is a bit silly. I understand not leaving them in it for an extended period of time, but for 15-20 mins, I thought it was great.

Softsoap liquid hand soap doesn't say keep out reach of kids. It says if comes in contact with eyes to just flush with water. The Dollar store here carries it. Hopefully that helps some of you with restrictions.

Two and a half hours... crazy. Thankfully it is over and you should be good for another two years right??

I hope after all of that, you passed

Yeah I was told this also but I argued this and guess what? I won the argument. But that's probably why I get visited more often than other providers. They probably hate me and I'm on their radar now lol. I got around it (for my own son that's 7 months old) because my garage is "not a part of daycare" and I keep it locked during the day so if it isn't a part of daycare then they can't search through there. I throw the bouncy seat in there during daycare hours . Of course each person from licensing interprets the regulations how they want so when I had one tell me she could look in the garage I asked her to show me the regulation. She moved on to the next area pretty quickly.

How very true. There's a lot of "gray" in the regs.

Passed okay! But she was very very thorough, even pointed out a few things that needed to be done that my other specialist never cared about. So every specialist is different, very gray in alot of areas!

And best part is, before that my last inspection was a year and a half ago-so she told me she will be out for an "unannounced inspection" before July 1 !!! Gotta love it! Dont worry about me for a year and a half, but give me 2 inspections within a 2 week span now!!

Seriously, she is coming out again?? Is she maybe just going to make sure you fix out the other things she pointed out that were okay in the past?

I agree, very gray areas. Only in my earlier years did I get inspected by the same worker multiple times. It seems like after she retired I've been issued a new worker every other year and each and every worker inspected differently and seemed to have their own rules and guidelines.... thankfully nothing totally crazy or out there.

I had an inspector tell me that I didn't have a health history parents report in the kids files and was suppose to and I asked to show me in the regs, and she couldn't so then she said, "well, we recommend it" .
I do agree we should have them, so I started putting them in.
But I love it when I know I'm right.
