How much do your DCK's love them?
Found a brand new mage set (100 pieces) for $100 and free shipping. Debating on whether I want to purchase or not. Current group consists of children ages 2 - 4.5 years.

love them. I have 3 big sets now, and every single child plays with them daily. They're worth it.
Stick and stack (amazon) are the same. I can notice a difference if I hold them up next to each other.

Is one set enough for a few kids to play with to get a collection started? Or should I get multiple sets right away?

I have several sets too. It is the only manipulative I don't ever change out......they work for all ages.

My kiddos love them. They work on the light table well, too! Plus my magnetic board.

It depends on how many kids you have.
I usually have between 10-12 kids, mostly preschool age.
I have about 4-5 sets between different brands. But, they all still fight over them.
My older crowd prefers the solid center (magnatiles and Picasso tiles) while my younger crowd likes the ones I posted in the Amazon deal- they are easy to grasp for them and don't pinch little fingers like the magnatiles can.
They do tend to be smaller in size though, so if you start with these, you may need at least two sets.
The Picasso tiles go on sale quite a bit on Amazon too. I just bought some more last month when they had a free gift w/purchase (2 of the car magnet builders).

When I worked with SA kids they were played with constantly and they hold up really well and last a long time. I don’t have any for my current dcks but might look into it some day.

Awesome! Glad to hear they are well loved by all ages. I have contemplated purchasing them for over a year, but hate to buy something my kids wouldn't use.

I want some for both my classroom and my daughter at home, but I can't get over the cost. I know they are worth it, but jeez.

My kiddos LOVE them! I have 4 sets and it's not enough. They are pricey but I got mine free with Scholastic points.

My oldest has a set of the mags tiles.
Can other brands work with these?

The answer is a definite "maybe"

A lot of the brands will work together but not all of them.

I thought about getting some, but never did cause I have 0-5yrs old kids, and I wasn't sure if the triangles were safe for the younger kids

2's teacher. Mine use the triangles. I just tend to be a little more obsessed with watching the ones I know are mouthers
