Q. Does having kids in the daycare center with special needs change the ratio of Teacher to student.

A. No, not in every state.

Q. If no, why not?

A. I would assume it is not financially feasible.

Q. Who determines this?

A. Each state has its own regulating body and requirements that you can read on the front page of this forum.

Hope that helps!

I live in Missouri and have a special needs child who is autistic and mostly nonverbal. He leaves the room and needs constant supervision. Why does the child to teacher ratio stay the same at child care centers that watch special needs children? We are getting reports of a center that has too many children for the teachers to care for and the babies are being left in their beds on their backs all day at the center and now the state is being asked to make a surprise visit. Some of these children wear helmets and are obviously in need of special care. These centers not only should be required to have more teachers on staff but there should be mandatory surprise visits from the state.
A new worker is telling about these instances but not giving out the name of the center yet because she doesn't want to leave these babies who she has been put in charge of. She is trying to find a way to inform the parents without being sued by the center.
