We are heading to FL for vacation next month and I was checking the carseat laws. Am I reading the law correctly that in FL children 6 years and older do not have to ride in a booster seat?

While that is legally correct, it is very important that children who do not pass the five step test ride in an appropriate restraint.
-back against the vehicle seat
-knees bent at the edge of the seat
-lap belt sits on top of thighs
-proper shoulder belt fit
-kid sits properly entire trip

Kids under 5 should ride in a 5 point harness and all children under 2 should ride rear facing.

This is the way the state law reads, it is extremely outdated and parents should go (way) beyond what is required by law. http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/.../0316.613.html
