I own a home in PA but I don’t live in it. I’d like to start a daycare but I read a group/family wont be an option since I don’t reside there. What can I do?

After school and summer programs that serve school aged kids tend to have different licensing rules. Check those out.

Right now there are all kinds of grants for those willing to offer full time virtual school. That may be a great way to go if you are so inclined.

Birth to 4 is pretty strict and not likely to give variances.

I was reading where you can be exempt if you only do school age care for a set amount of time: https://www.publichealthlawcenter.or...s-pennsylvania

Group Child Day Care Homes
This chapter [Group Child Day Care Homes] does not apply to:

This chapter is not applicable to a part-day school-age program for children who attend kindergarten or older but under 16 years of age as follows:

* It also says you have to complete the 40 hour orientation, first, before even beginning. It would be a great opportunity to find out exactly how your state will allow you to open. - https://www.dhs.pa.gov/providers/Chi...gulations.aspx

(b) A legal entity or a representative of the legal entity shall participate in an orientation training provided by the Department within 12 months prior to commencing operation of the group child day care home. The orientation does not count toward the annual minimum of 6 hours of child care training required in § 3280.31(e) (relating to age and training).
