So dcm came by paid for a deposit to hold her kid's spots while she finds a job.

I gave her the new contract and rate increase letter, stating once again that I will no longer be doing hourly care and rates. This is 4 seperate times she has been told this.

She went home read the contract and came back and still proceeded to ask me if im still up for doing and hourly afterschool rate. $15.00 for the day.

For the fifth time I told her No i cant.

Why wont she get it???

Honestly, I think you need to advertise and fill the space. You are obviously NOT the right fit for this mom. She needs a provider who will charge her hourly.

If she stays with you, you know this will be an issue as long as sheis in care. That is a situation I would not want to be in. If I have to continually explain things to someone, I would rather not provide care to them at all.

Oh, and why she doesn't get it.....my personal opinion is because she truly does not want to and she feels that if she continually questions this new policy, you will eventually be worn down and give in. Again, NOT a situation I would want to be in. It is disrespectful and rude. If she cannot respect your policies, even after agreeing to them, then I would choose NOT to do business with her?

Can I ask you why you are continuing to allow this to go on? She doesn't really sound like a "golden family" that is worth keeping after all this....

I feel like I dont really have a valid excuse to give her a 2 week notice.

she is hoping!

15$ a day is 75 a week for before and after that is not that bad. I would add to that for no school days or vacations and summer that you fee goes up, or just bluntly tell her I charge-------- that is my price. I don't negotiate your job work wage, you should not be negotiating mine. I think you have given her more then enough- talk the talk, now walk the walk. Don't open any communication to this anymore, except to ask her that you need to know what her plans are. This is hard to do but once you do it you will feel so much better then playing these games--- it is just getting there and as far as I see it, you should have been there three conversations ago

You don't need a "valid excuse". If at anytime a family isn't working for you, you can let them go.....the is the beauty of owning your own business.

I would send a letter saying:

Dear Dcm,

As of XX date I am no longer able to provide care for your family.

yup! you dont need an excuse. Just tell write up a simple term letter. Tell her you can no longer meet her needs and that X will be the last date of care. Make sure to include a copy of the contract with your exit policy. This whole thing is just beyond annoying and I am just reading about it, not living thru it. You dont HAVE to take a family just because they keep sniffing around. Do yourself a favor, decide for everyone and term, and then move on to a new family that does "get" it.

The bolded part above IS a perfect excuse if you want to use one! You really aren't able to meet her needs.

She needs daycare that bills by the hour and you do not fit that scenario.

She also needs a daycare provider she is able to negotiate costs/policies with and you aren't that person either so I would simply tell her you are no longer able to meet her needs.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

Shows you care about her needs as well as your own.

It's your business and you don't need an excuse however, if she asks for one simply tell her that you no longer think it is going to work out since she keeps coming back asking for hourly rates and you have made it quite clear that you are on a weekly rate. She is trying to run your business and I can see more problems in the future from this parent.
