How do you feel about baby's and toddlers going to the chiropractor? I have a 2 year old who has went every two weeks since he was born. It has made him more flexible. I just wonder why people do this for their kids? I pick this little boy up and his arms and back creek and crack as if he were an old person. I don't think it does him any good to go to the chiropractor so young. Seems like a waste of money to me.

I have had LOTS of families that use the chiropractor.

I have one in particular that goes for ear infections and colds.

The kids are 11, 8 and 5 now and NONE of them have ever been given medicine or an antibiotic but all have had ear infections.

For some, the chiropractor IS health care.

I think for a lot of older people like myself it was hard to think of chiropractors as anything but bone crackers.

Apparently they are much more than that.

So yes, in response to your post....it is VERY common for families to regularly see a chiropractor for their child.

Subluxations in the spine "settle" after about 2 weeks and are a lot harder to correct. Going weekly or bi-weekly helps to keep everything in good working order.

My two children go every week, as well as myself. My oldest used to be sick SO OFTEN. He got sick once this entire winter.
My youngest has been going since she was 4 days old. She had A LOT going on since birth is A LOT of pressure to put on their little skeletal systems. She also had her torticollis corrected. She couldn't even get her little head to turn to the left side, even with my help, to breastfeed and it completely corrected that. She has seen her a lot more than just once a week. If she is sick, I take her in. When she had her tongue and lip ties revised (laser surgery, twice!) I took her in.
BEST decision I ever made for my family, hands down. I started going when I was pregnant and having excruciating tailbone pain. I haven't left since.

Chiropractors are great for preventative health care. I have never been healthier.

Massage therapists too. I grew up in the era that anything except MDs were "quack" medicine, but I think that there's more than 1 path to health.

My chiropractor's grandson comes to my day care and his daughter, the child's mother is getting married this coming Saturday in Traverse City. We are taking the weekend off and going up there (about 4.5 hours away) for the wedding. I used to have the most severe neck pain and headaches and chiropractic adjustments were the only relief I could get. My children went to Dr. Mike and still do.

I worked doing nails part time at a massage studio for 18 years and can definitely vouch for the benefits of massage. AND I just started two new clients, one parent is a massage therapist and one manages the studio. I'm excited. I can see some bartering happening.

Creaking and cracking probably doesn't have anything much to do with going to the chiro young... I have one who's 17 months and she's just cracky, and afaik she doesn't go to the chiro.

There is lots of evidence that a GOOD chiropractor is highly beneficial.

Fortunately since he's not yours and it's not your money, you don't really need to have an opinion.

I am not against alternative treatments/medicines (says the girl who has her first acupuncture appointment tomorrow! ) and obviously each family has the right to do what they feel is best for their family.

Buuuut, I don't think people realize that some of the adjustments that chiropractors do can be dangerous. It's not a risk I would be comfortable assuming for my children.

My question is the cost of it!!!!! Our insurance wouldn't pay for a weekly/bi-weekly appts. and I can't afford the cost of it out of pocket each time.

Wow, to those who can afford it!

I go about 1x a month unless I am having major issues & my co-pay is only $6.10/visit unless the dr does something extra & then I may have to pay $15. Not bragging though as I am only allowed to go 20 x a year on our insurance's dime & a few years back insurance had our co-pay at $30/visit. I can't say enough good about my chiro though. I had a debilitating whiplash injury that left me in severe pain for weeks & all my normal dr would offer me was muscle relaxers. I am not into taking drugs to assist with problems unless necessary but after 7-8 chiro visits that pain was mostly gone. Now I just go when I get issues with my neck or back. I would much rather do something natural than endure over-the-counter medications that only mask pain.

Mine is because of the honor system. You dedicate a portion of your budget to it...only as much as you can afford. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to. I am the breadwinner and this job pays the bills but not muchh is left.
