$80 per week to care for 4 kids, up to 10 hours per day, including meals. Seriously?

What in the world will she feed them, ramen noodle?

And how can she have a child from 6 pm-noon or longer? I wouldn't trust this woman with a pet rat.

I had someone call me yesterday and asked how much it is weekly for full-time child care. I quoted my price ($135/week), which is in the median for your average home daycare and about $50-100 less than centers. Her response? "Is that for one child?"

Seriously?? Yes, it is for one child! You don't get what I provide for $65 per week . I haven't even seen home daycare for less than $80 per week in our area, and the place that charges $80 is in an apartment with someone with no training and a couple of her children's toys within the living room.

So basically for $15 a day, I never have to see my child? Drop them off at 8am and keep them there until 6pm then pay the extra $5 for overnight care which gets Me until 12pm then pay again each day. 24/7. Sounds like a dangerous situation.

Oh dear, that one is the scariest of all!

I have to say that I can understand a stay-at-home mom just looking for a little extra cash, license-exempt. There's no way someone who is ok with $10/day-quality care is going to be interested in my program anyway, so they aren't bothering me. I would hope that people wouldn't be interested, but there are a lot of people who have to put cost at the forefront of their mind, unfortunately.

Ilove hearing these, but loathe that they mean people will use them. Whenever I see super cheap rates w/ no hour/day caps, I think they're filming these kids in an obscene way, or something llegal is definitely going on. Very unsafe.

I had the EXACT same phone call, except I charge $150 per week and that is definitely on the high side here. People on craigslist are dropping their prices to $100 or less a week.

oh my word! this is so unreal, its crazy. 6 kids with 5 month old twins???? I am sorry, mom or dad needs to stay home and parent this crew on their own! I live in a mid to low cost of living area and these parent would definitely be paying at least $10 an hour but probably more like $15 to tend to that huge group. Even just the two babies, I would charge $300 a week, not including school agers. If all the kids were in school except the twins and I watched in my home, I would charge $600 a week.

I'm not sure what's going on here, but this woman has been advertising for about a year now. She is not licensed, which is illegal here. I know people have targeted her on CL before making their own ad to her saying that what she is doing is illegal so I don't know if someone is out to get her or what!

WHAT!?

That took the cake!!!

These are scary. I am not one for big government, but there needs to be SOMETHING that can be done about this. Even parent education about laws, regulations, safety and more access to childcare assistance. I had a dcm who is around $10/week over for ANY assistance. The caseworker told her to either work a couple less hours per week, or find a 'cheap babysitter'. She declined both, but MAN!

I have a sneaking feeling that someone is out to get her because someone outed her right on CL before for not having a license. But there are so many illegal providers around here, I don't know why they targeted her.

Who knows, you just never know these days!

No, I have not! Not sure what to think of this.... Paying someone to be their daughter's friend? But in a weird way, it's kind of thoughtful that they are trying to keep her happy and entertained. But in another weird way, I think the daughter might be unhappy that mom is "buying" her a friend and would find it terribly awkward. Hell, Idk what to think of this. Lol.

Ok.. so I seriously hope I don't offend anyone, but this girl has 4 kids.. (2 of them she was pregnant for while still in high school). I wonder if she's perhaps on welfare, and has everything paid for by the state, so the small amt she charges is to buy such items that you can't purchase with food Stamos

Not at all. I think we're all being a little judgemental in this thread, but that's because.... Well, sometimes it's fun. Lol. Especially if there's no harm done, which there isn't. I feel bad. But not, because these people are mostly ridiculous. I feel like we're all hens in the hen house right now, gossiping and laughing, and sometimes we need to be able to do that.

I can't even read half of these due to horrendous spelling, all caps, run-on sentences and other horrible communication. It is ridiculous. If I put up an ad for a nanny in the future I would ask that they know how to spell daycare, use a punctuation mark, and refrain from sending selfies as part of their resume.

It is actually true. Well sort of.

When a child cries, their blood pressure rises, their cortisol production increases, their oxygen levels decrease, their ability to focus or pay attetnion decreases and the part of their brains that allow them to "weigh" options or make decisions becomes somewhat un-usable in a sense.

It's much more complicated than that and I think the OP took it out of context or maybe just heard a portion of the topic and went with it but the study was more about long term crying and focused more on CIO than an upset or tantruming toddler/preschooler.

I guess it's just the way she wrote it. As in, she learned this fact from directly working with children. Like one day she noticed the decision making part of their brain turned off while they were crying.

She practically needs a daycare license just to watch her own kids. It's hard to find an available daycare spot for infants, let alone twins! Not to mention the difficulty of finding a place that has 6 spots open for less than $1,000/month. She would either have to use a sitter (which would even cost more) or put them all in separate daycares, because it is practically impossible to find 1 daycare that will take all of her children.

I don't know about you, but I think I'd rather know about rates, program, meals, etc.. BEFORE I cared what race my child's provider was. Weird..like a personals ad.

I'm not trying to be mean, but that whole ad just screamed "Chester" to me.

One of the things I like about Germany is that you NEED to have some sort of education/training to care for kids. They even offer a totally free program to be an in-home dcp, and offer classes constantly, so you can keep educating yourself for free.

I'm not saying that people need degrees to have kids, but sometimes I wish there was some sort of screening process.

On a side note, I find it really weird how many people are saying they don't drink or do drugs. Isn't that kind of given when you're working with kids? (At least while you're working?)

This is the type of thing I don't understand. If she truly only has $50 leftover a week for child are after all of her NECESSARY bills are paid then surely she qualifies for assistance.

First of all, how is a 9 month old a newborn? Second of all, someone IS going to take her up for that offer, sadly.

Someone was nice enough to send me this link to show me what some of you are saying. Yes,I offer cheap childcare cause I've watched too many single parents struggle and have to work 2 jobs just to pay for daycare or childcare costs. All of your opinions and bashing don't bother me at all cause I know who I am. My uncle is a police officer and I have amazing references including military, police, lawyers ,etc. I don't need to do this for extra money, I choose to help people out because I know what it's like to look for affordable and safe childcare.

And just to set the record straight, those that think people who are cheap on their costs are bad people best think again. Watch the news and see how many daycares and foster parents abuse or harm kids. I mean be real,ANYONE who watches your child should be checked out unless you don't care. I've never been in trouble, don't drink or nothing.

And another thing, to the person who thinks they are funny saying I probably feed them ramen noodles. .... I don't feed any of them ramen noodles, but sometimes a parent sends them with a child to eat.
I don't feed them hot dogs, bologna or any of that. I don't really benefit from this except the smile on my face knowing I helped someone out.
None of you have any right to judge me for me trying to help people who need it. Only person that can judge me is God. Y'all all have a nice day.

In a way, the 'babysitting' job I have now is more about being the kids friend than his sitter/caregiver. The mom is always home, so she mostly just needs someone to keep him entertained (and sometimes it seems like "just dealing with him") while she either cleans the house or takes care of his baby sister-there are times when it seems like she favors the baby more than him (she always brings up the baby when he is clearly not interested in talking about her). Sometimes it even feels like I'm being paid to be the mom's friend because she takes me with her them errands- grocery shopping, to the outlets, and even doctors appointments with the kids and she want's to stop me from moving out of state.

This is a serious question. At $80 per week, for 4 children, and 50 hours of available care per week, you are receiving a mere forty cents per hour, per child. If you are a legal in-home provider, you can accept 6 children. That is.$120 per week of income. Am I correct abot the math? Just curious. I am in Florida. For $120 per week, I would watch one(1) child for 3 days, for 30 hours total. My math is.$4 per hour, per child.

Please do tell us how you provide meals, materials and a quality, supplied and age appropriate environment for so little money. We are genuinely interested, (well, I am). I do hope you are also receiving state subsidy and your quoted rates are the parents fees AFTER subsidy grants. If not, you should look into becoming a subsidized provider, assuming you are licensed and meet minimum licensing standards.

If you are operating illegally (too many children, for example) you need to stop, immediately. Illegal is not the same as unlicensed. See link for details.

Agreed. If you are operating illegally, you really don't get to have your feelings hurt. I, too, would be very interested to know how you provide a safe, secure, QUALITY environment for that many children on $80 per week. You can't even feed that many for $80! What about developmentally appropriate toys? Educational activities? Arts/crafts? Those materials usually cost more than food. Child proofing? A fenced in playground area with a variety of age appropriate toys/slides/wagons/water tables? How do you provide all of this for 4 for $80?

Here's another $10 daily for unlimited hours. So I can leave my kids there for 24 hours for $10? That's 41 cents per hour. I think that's a record.

'Well whoever she gets to watch the kids will have to be licensed or really desperate, so I doubt she will find legal care; in OK, a provider must be licensed in order to even take one child… now go over the border (from Tulsa) about 2.5 hrs into AR and you can take 5 kids legally licensed exempt…

Here too. Alabama has no exceptions. One child = must be licensed. Unless the child is related.
