My daycare is in my home, but I got a home phone pretty much for business use only. But I don't know how I should answer the phone...Hello? or Business name? What do you do?

I just say hello, but our phone is our home phone. If I did have a business phone (and a business name) I'd answer with the business name.

Simply "hello". It's our home though too and I rarely get business calls on it.

I have a line just for business, and I answer that with 'daycare came, Myself speaking.' Unless it's a number that comes up with caller id(most do) , like my current daycare parents, and then I answer "Good morning/afternoon/whatever so & so"

Our home phone is answered 'Last name residence'

I didn't answer the poll, too many phones, too many answers LOL

I only have cell. It's caller I'd usually tells me who it is. I usually answer ' crazy house, this is 'my name' how may I direct your call?
Or ' buddy the elf, what's your favorite color?'
Or
Boring old, hello.

I've always wanted to answer with 'buddy the elf, what's your favorite color', but I just haven't worked up the courage yet!

I usually say 'good morning' when answering. Most of my calls come in the morning. I have to catch myself in the afternoon. Afternoon calls are answered with hello.

My Dad was a dentist and growing up we had to answer Dr Smith's residence Sally speaking Then when my parents divorced we all just kept answering Smiths's So when I go married I continued and answer with my last name.

It works Though people do hang up thinking they have the wrong number or say is this a business?

My cell phone is my home number.

I have a Nettalk number as a business number.

No land line.

So I say hello on the cell phone and my business name on the other phone.

If the caller ID reveals someone I know well, I will usually just answer by saying "What?!?!" and if it is someone I don't know, I usually don't answer at all.

I HATE the phone so I let the answering machine pick up as much as possible.

My landline phone actually speaks the caller ID info outloud so I don't have to actually look and see who it is. I love that feature.

It's a Panasonic. I it. Here is a link to it. There is a demo on the link you can listen to and see what it sounds like. It is very computer-ish but still serves it's purpose well.

Funny story, but we have some friends with the last name Richardson.

When the phone rings the caller ID announcer says "Call from the Re-tardsons" (at least that is what it sounds like )

Cracks us up every time!

I just got this APP on my I-phone (You can get it from the google play store too) called talkatone . Its free and uses your googe account. It is a seperate number that gets forwarded to my cell number.
So now when I advertise I use that number. And when they call they dont know its forwarded to my "real" number . I am also planning to use it on my phone when we get rid of our AT&T contracts, to have something before I begin using straight talk. And guess what? I tried it on my I-phone without the sim card and it works! It works on DH's android tablet. I use it while at home on wi-fi.

I also got the APP free zone where it shows a map and all the available free wi-fi spots where ever I am or will be going. What's cool is the talkatone app can be set to only work when I'm on wi-fi, saving me from accidentally getting charged for roaming fees if I didn't have my own data plan. Talkatone is free on wi-fi but when your out&about they will xharge insane fees. Since I want to save $, then not having a phone unless I'm hooked up to wi-fi spot is worth it to save $ yntil I start using straight talk.

I have Google Voice (free). Google gives you a phone number and you connect it with any phone numbers that you already have that you want your calls transferred to. I use my Google number as my business phone number and this is the number that I put in all of my advertising and that I hand to my clients. It even allows texting. There's also an app that you download for your smart phone so all of your texts and call records go there.

I have my calls sent to both my cell phone (since in on or close to me at all times and we go out on walks often) and my home phone. When both phone's ring I know someone is calling my business line or I can look on my cell phone to see that it's coming through Google Voice. I can pick up my cell phone or my home phone.

When it's a business call I always answer "[daycare name], this is Marina" so they know they called my daycare.

We have a newly purchased home just for child care, so I do answer with my business name. When I did FCC years ago in my home I just answered, "Hello."

I do know two providers in my area that have always answered with their business name.

When I worked in a retail store they made us answer the phone with not only the business name but also to promote any specials we had this is one of the longer ones we had to say "Thank for calling ______'s where you can save 50% off your custom framing and 75% off your custom floral arrangements. This is ______, how can I help you?" Most of the time people would hang up or interrupt and say "Save the speil" but we had to say it everytime we answered because sometimes the managers would call just to make sure we were saying it. It would change everyweek and I would always mess up if I said it too slow and knew people grew impacient so I would say it really fast and the managers would tell me to slow it down- FYI no one cares about those upsales! They usually just want to know if we had certain Items.

I was watching "Flipping Out" (he has a home-based design/remodling business) and he makes all of his employees answer the phones "Good morning/afternoon. It's a wonderful day at Jeff Lewis's office- this is ____, how may I help you?"

When I worked at a home daycare she had both a cell and home phone that were used for both and she would just answer it "Hello" or "_____ speaking" and when anyone else answered the phone we would just say "_______'s daycare, ______ speaking".

I think when I start mine I will probably have a home phone just for daycare (you need to have a landline open here for licensing) and I think I will just answer it "Hello, thank you for calling ______ daycare, This is _____ speaking. How may I help you?" It's professional but still simple and not too overbearing.
