Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Really? HELP ADVICE NEEDED!

Okay, some advice is needed. I interviewed a family yesterday for childcare and their children are ages 2 and 4. Two year old not potty trained. I gave them my rate of $75/3 days for the two year old and $42 for the 4 year old which would include pickup from preschool. The mom was flabbergasted that it was $117 for the week. Then she probed into my church affiliation, and personal aspects of my other children. Wanted to know who would be watching the kids if I had to go to the restroom. My dilemma is I do need other children for care, but my gut feeling tells me this is going to be a nightmare. The kids have only been watched by family thus far.
Should I cut my losses and wait for another family to save the heartache or give it a chance?

I'd say skip it. It will only get worse. I've had parents that way and when I took a chance it never worked out. They tried to manage my childcare and complain about everything. WOW..I charge $145 for just one child for 3 days so not sure why she is complaining about the cost.

I would pass. If there are problems before they even start it's only going to get worse IMO.

I charge 30 per day for the first child and 25 for the second . At what you quoted her she is getting a deal , even more so if you are picking up the child from pre school .

I can understand her wanting to know about others in the home who may be with her kids , I have people ask all the time how many kids I have and thier ages . But that is all I tell them.

I think she is asking too much if she is more info about your church and kids.

$117 for pt care for TWO kids, including transportation and she's complaining? RUN. She's delusional. Also- not her business what religion, if any, you are or any info about your kids.

I would pass. She is really getting a good deal...why so little for the 4 year old? They are still taking up a spot all 3 days AND you have to pick up! I would have charged the same or more as the 2 year old!

Yep, you definitely gave her a deal, she's evidently not used to paying anything for care. Did you ask her who watches her children while SHE is using the bathroom?

I would charge $240 per week for that! You gave a fabulous deal. Don't walk away....****N.

She will only start to question and challenge everything you do! I'd skip this one for sure! I had a family like this when I first opened. They were a nightmare! Well, they were termed after a month and then reported a false accusation to my licencing to try to get me in trouble. RUN! Not worth it. I charge $110 week per kid for part time

I once had a parent question my religious affiliation. I told her that no religion was taught in my preschool program. She again asked "Yes, but what religion are you?" I showed her the door.

I know rates vary, but that does seem low! I charge $30 a day per child for 3 days a week care. I have twin 2.5 year olds and their family pays $180 per week for part time care with NO transportation offered.

That is my thought too. I had a call this morning for an 1 year old and I charge $105/wk and the dad went WOW to much! Really, they would not work for that.

You guys are awesome, thank you for affirming my thoughts. She did go so far and even asked who would be watching the kids while I am in the kitchen making meals and when I go to the restroom. I need kids, so I am some what desperate, but I think I will need to pass on these two. She is to paranoid and to much. I need to save myself some heartache and cut my losses.

They would be paying $225 at my house for that deal. I would also suggest letting it go. Your religion really is none of their business. Who watches her kids when SHE goes to the bathroom?! No way would I go any further with this one.

That would be $200.00 here ($100.00 each for the 3 day spot). That is crazy and I don't think I could deal with that.

I would have asked her who watches her kids when SHE'S in the kitchen, makes dinner, uses the bathroom, etc. Some parents are so oblivious to how home care works. Just like if they're at home, they wait patiently for you to finish. If that's a foreign concept... RUN!
And price wise I know you must live in a low COL area, but it would be $300/wk for 2 PT kids, no transportation, here in my area. I charge $50/day for less than 4-5 days/wk. I might discount for an older sibling by $5/day but that's still over double!

I never give part-time rates. It is a full time spot. To hard to fill the other days. She sounds like a high maintenance parent.

Someone just did this to me!! Ugh! She asked about a single day for an infant (her provider doesn't have room on just one day) and I quoted her my single day rate ($10 higher than my FT rate) and asked me if I would do $10 less because the going rate is $10-15 less a day. No one else seems to have a problem with my rates and why would I give her a FT discount for ONE day a week!? And a baby to boot! She said she contacted me before she had her baby but chose someone else. LOL...

Don't take the drama lama's mama's, post in Craigs list, on childcare resource and referrals, make a website, join lots of other website's that help post for childcare... I had parents who wanted to see my upstairs home area since I had a designated downstairs for childcare.. I told them no, it's for family and friends and it's not licensed since I don't do childcare there PLUS I couldn't leave the kiddo's...alone. I don't need people staking out my house to see what I own...lol I almost said, only if I get to be invited in all parts of your home first, then I would let them, but I thought they'd take me up on it...lol

What did they try to do? What was their complaint? Did they close you?
