Default Change In Schedule - Extra Fee

I nanny for a family & this spring one of the parents (who is a teacher) will be coaching a spring sport. That parent coaching will extend my work week by about 6 hours a week. The other parent works a later shift so they wouldn't be home to "relieve" me. Parents have said they will compensate me for the extra time & I am fairly certain they will ask me what I wish to be paid. Because of leaving later & traffic being worse it will likely mean I will not get home until 6:15 pm (I am used to being home by 4:30 pm) the 4 days I work. I am paid at an hourly rate & planned to just charge them an add'l 6 hrs a week based on that normal hourly rate. My DH said that I should charge higher than that b/c it makes me work an @ 10 hr day & b/c I will be getting home so much later. Thoughts?!?!

Charge two hours of pay a day at least. You will give one hour and forty five minutes extra of your time so two hours would be fair. Maybe two and a half if ou want some ot pay.

Do they consider travel time? If it will seriously take you extra time to drive home during the rush hour I would want to be paid the difference. Then again, do you have to prepare dinner? Clean up after dinner? Do more household chores or care for pets?

In general not to get too fussy you are right to add the extra hours of pay, plus some extra driving traffic jams for the added fuel.

Thanks all for your insight! It will definitely make me hit traffic at a bad time - typically I can get home in about 25 min or so but I know this will add an add'l 15 min or so to my drivetime & if there is an accident or bad weather it could be more like an extra 25-30 min. I work near a very large state university & have to get on 3 different state routes to get home. I just don't know if she will have sticker shock when I request a specific amount. Does $80 for 6 hrs sound too high if I typically get paid $11/hr?
