It is bitterly cold here today, we bundled up and went outside anyways. I'm minding it more then the kids. At what temp do you stay in because it's to cold?

It's about the same for us down here in central Texas. Yesterday was the first day we've been out in a week.

It depends- it was 28 here yesterday and we went outside to play with the birds (change water/ check for eggs/ top off feeder). There was no wind and the sun was bright. At times a bright calm 20 feels warmer than a cloudy windy 40. If it feels "cold" then we stay in the sunroom.

It's different for every state. If you live in a southern climate, the temp at which you feel cold is MUCH different than what is considered cold in northern climates.

Personally, we go out every day if it's zero or above.

Amount of time we stay outside varies according to temperature.

I use this as a general guide.

But, l have found from other threads on this forum, that it is all relative. The Florida providers have a far different threshold than the Minnesota providers. Probably because the further north you are, the more likely your children will have all the appropriate attire to be outside in cold weather. KWIM?

My true threshold is about 70.
I hate it when I have to wear pants.

We did go outside today, they all had on heavy jackets. Gotta wear them at least once before they are outgrown. Yes, 50's call for mittens and hat and boots for one little Floridian.
I just realized.....today was the first day outside that didn't require mosquito spay....let the grueling 6 weeks of "winter" begin!

Same here. I think it's about 45° now and in SC that practically the ice age. Our regs say 42 but we upped to 50.

I am in the south and start wearing 2 layers (thermals and jeans) when it gets to the 60's. So, this winter I bought a warm fuzzy lined zip up hoodie to wear under my coat filled with down AND I bought some Land's End zip up boots with thinsulate and fur inside. Oh yes, it got real and I feel AWESOME outside!!! Even when it was in the 30's!!!

I go outside daily, twice daily really, unless it is raining. It just isn't healthy to keep kids inside and I don't think my group of 10 would survive being trapped inside. We need to get out that energy and get some fresh air.

We just spent an hour outside this morning playing in the snow.

It's currently 17F here and snowing.

A beautiful warm winter day.

It was 20* here, real feel of 9*.

We spent 45 minutes outside making snow roads and breaking up sticks for the lane lines. Then pretended to be dogs and pulled other kids in sleds.

I watched with a warm coffee.

Your regs say 42???? It is 38 right now and feels lovely! Sunny, no wind. I can't wait to go back out after the kids wake up from nap

I do it by feel too. I bundle them up and we go on a walk no mater what (unless we are making the national news type of cold) if it is brutal cold is a super short walk.

According to licensing we can't go out if "real feel" is under 20 or over 90.

I use the chart above. Our schools in Kansas had a similar one they used to determine if recess would be outside or not, I use it when I did daycare in Kansas. That being said, the older I get the less I can deal with the cold. If I am miserable, we are not going out lol.

I work in a center in central Florida. Our policy says that under 30* real feel and no outside time, although it was a bit warmer than that today and our supervisor said no outside time We all went out yesterday and personally I think it felt colder yesterday than today.
