Does anyone else cringe at the sound of:
Slamming Legos
Dinosaur sounds
Shooting sounds
Tattling
Meeko 08:04 AM 02-14-2012

For me the biggest sound that makes me cringe is a child who whines when speaking.
(cringing as I type because I hate whining)
Everything else I can deal with...just no whining!!

I don't mind the playing sounds. But I do hate whining, yelling just to yell (esp. when I have asked 5 million times to use quiet voices), and tattling!
My kids do not really tattle. But I have a friend who watches 4 and 5 year old girls and they tattle CONSTANTLY when we have playdates together. Things like "Johnny touched the couch". Stuff that is like who cares!!!????

the only sound that annoys me is cars pulling up past pick up time.

I had a DCB whos laugh would drive me up a wall!!! I felt terrible that a childs laughter annoyed me to no end.....
He has aged out of my program now....but it was VERY LOOOOONG 5 yrs

Kids chewing with their mouths open, intentionally obnoxious loud drinkers, one dcb's play voice which for some reason turns him into a 2 yr old whining girl
.

"but I had it first"
Countrygal 11:43 AM 02-14-2012
whining and arguing. "You took it from me!" "na-ha, I had it first" " no you didn't, I did" etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum......... all while the third one is going "but IIIIIII waannnttt ittttttttt"
AfterSchoolMom 12:13 PM 02-14-2012
I'd have to add that crack-the-windows, high pitched toddler SCREECH/scream. Ugh!
Meeko 01:01 PM 02-14-2012
But then we hear "I lubboo!" and it's all worth it!

Repetitive sounds, whether it's someone saying the same thing over and over or making a noise again and again. The repetitive thing drives me bonkers.

crystal....cry---stal...........CRYS.....TAAAALLLLL......CRYSTAL!!!!!
When they do this, I act like I cannot hear them....unless I know there is something urgent.
You can't catch me! Eeeewwww, That's Dis-gus-ting. Children speaking in third person. This is 'Mikey's', not yours... 'Mikey' would like that toy now.

Whining, taunting, and just general crabby crying does irritate me. But my first thought when I read the thread title, was I cringe at the sound of paper ripping, especially not sure what the source is and knowing my dd (21mo) is very book curious.

Parents talking baby talk to kids over 2. COME ON! It irks me over 1, but I can give some leeway for a few months. These are the same parents who keep their kids on the binky and still have them in cribs WAY too long (like my dcb who will be three this week).
"Buh-bye bay-bee! Mama lubs you so, so, so, so much!" Cue the kissy noises, 18 thousand hugs, picking a child up who wants to be put down, etc.
And they wonder why their "baby" won't potty train. Ummm, do you want him to be a baby or a big boy because you are sending some seriously mixed signals.
