hmm, I maybe get flamed But, I really don't mind tatoos (will be getting one) but I think there has to be a line were you want to look professional. First impressions are everything, doesn't matter what anyone says.

I don't think you'll get flamed for saying that. I think we can all agree that first impressions are very important.

That said, I am careful not to shove my wrist in a potential clients face so that they can see mine.

I like them (have 1 that isn't visible) and do think they could negatively impact someone's professional appearance.

I am covered head to toe in tattoos and I have five facial piercings. I KNOW it doesn't negatively affect my business. I have only had 2 interviewees pass me up in all my years of doing daycare - one was because the family was french and opted for a bilingual daycare and the other was because they didn't want to pay me over the summer (both parents teachers). I have clients from all walks of life and they don't see my tatts or piercings at all. They are part of my body.

I have 2 that are both small and tasteful and sentimental.

I wouldn't want someone watching my kids that had garish tattoos of skulls and dragons etc. or had them on their face and neck. Not really a fan of facial piercings either, a small nose stud is okay but lips, eyebrows, and tongues - not so much.

Have them and love them. However, I do think that an excessive amount that are are always shown can be tacky. Then again I have seen women with full sleeves that look awesome. I think it depends on what the tattoo is and has a lot to do with the persons personality

I'm getting one on my wrist soon....can't wait! I think they are cute on the wrist

I have a tiny nose stud and have never had anyone say anything negative. All positive! Usually I hear "oh that's so cute and tiny....I would love one like that"

QUESTION: For those of you that love tattoos, at what age would you let your child get one???

My daughter may get herself tattooed when she turns 18. Although I will stress the importance of thinking about living with it LONG TERM. You really need to put thought into everything you get and it needs to mean something to you. I'm not a fan of people that just go pick something off the wall at the shop because it "looks pretty cool". As far as piercings I got my eyebrow pierced when I was 14 with my moms approval and signature. I would do the same for my daughter. By 17 I had my eyebrow, an industrial, a vertical industrial, 3 lobe piercings (2 of which were gauged), and a cartilage ring. Still have all but I let the gauges down and don't keep any thing in my eyebrow. I think piercings are harmless. But tattoos need a lot of thought and dedication.

I have a full back piece and it has never caused me to lose a client. I've gotten compliments though! If a tattoo is the defining factor between choosing me and not choosing me then we're probably not a good fit anyway.

I agree ALOT OF THOUGHT! My son will be 17 soon and he wants to get one with his brothers name I think he will love it forever! I've been thinking about his 17th birthday.... I just don't know!

I also hate wall tattoos! My first one is a wall tattoo and I have regretted it for years! Never again

I don't have them and don't really care for them but it doesn't bother me if someone else has them. My dd has a few and I have a niece and nephew who also have them. Not my thing but "live and let live" is my motto.

This is what I was taught. My dad has many tattoos and whenever he went to work he was sure to cover them. On weekends or out with friends he didn't care.

I would let my boys at 18. Not that I could control them by then though.

I kept trying to figure out what a wall tattoo was! Felt silly when I realized it

My first one was flash off of the wall too. Butterfly.

I only have one right now but I want more. As far as making you look unprofessional, it depends on what it is, where it is, and who is looking.
Mine is pretty big, on my calf and is not in any way inappropriate for the children to see, but I don't point it out to clients. If they see it, they see it. If they don't, they don't, No biggie.

I used to have 3 facial piercings but they are closed up now. I've been thinking about getting them redone. Well... at least one of them. I miss my septum ring

Im not a fan of them myself, but on others I think they are cool. My hubby has several and I like his. As far as business goes...I think if they are tasteful and not ALL OVER then it wouldn't negatively affect your business.

I put that I don't have them or like them but to be honest.. if you're going to get one done, make sure the person that does it is a true artist.

I've seen some that were really pretty (for women). There's one circulating where the woman had an entire camisole tattoo to cover up breast cancer surgery and it's awesome.

If it's not a good artist, don't waste your money.

Now if I had breast surgery for cancer and reconstruction, rather than having it tattoo'd to look natural I'd go for a flower or a smiley face because.. well.. I'm weird that way.

I dont have one and dont really care to have one. Nothing I like enough to put permanently on me. Dont care if others have them, and everyone has them now, so you really cant judge

I find it interesting how neck in neck the poll is. I thought it would definetly be one way or the other by many votes.

When they are legally old enough to make that decision for themselves, which in this state is when they turn 18

I would not sign for my underage child getting a tattoo or piercing beyond the ears. It's never something I'd want them to be able to turn back around on me when they're 30 and have a family....."MOM, why in the heck did you let me get this stupid ugly thing...."

I keep thinking about a post I saw a while back, I forget who said it but one of their DCM's got a tattoo with Sagittarius spelled wrong! That was pretty funny due to the circumstances of the poster. For sure, have it done by a professional

This is so true! If my mom had let me get a tattoo while I was still in high school, I might have a giant tattoo of some guitar player who may have been hot in his day but now, several decades later is doing Depends commercials.

There is NOTHING from my youth that I love now nearly as much as I did then. Well, except Doritos.

I have one tasteful tattoo in a normal place. I thought I when I got it I was getting it in a place that could be easily covered, but now that I do work in a place that requires that it not be visible, its harder than I thought. No sleeveless or cute cap sleeve tops for me

I don't have them, but DH has one and FIL has a bunch - he is very careful about each tattoo having meaning though. He has a particular artist he likes to work with, and they design them together. They don't cover him head to toe, but he has them placed all over. I've gone back and forth about getting one ... my biggest reason for not would be the whole pain thing - I don't do well with it, haha.

I have a tattoo on my lower back and my nose and lip pierced. I think as long as the tattoos are tasteful and you can cover it up with clothing if needed or take it a piercing out if needed its fine. I think a simple nose piercing or one in the center of your bottom lip is okay as long as it is secure and not too distracting to the kids. Some of the daycare kids would just barely see my nose ring when I was tying their shoes and ask what it was and I would just say "it's just a sparkle". The tattoo on my back is kinda on my lower back and sometimes when I wear short shirts or low ride pants it will show, so I just distract them or change the subject if they notice it and try to wear a longer shirt or higher pants.

At the home daycare I used to work at the owner always told her daughter she would fire her if she gaged her ears to anything better than a size 0, got any noticable tattoos, if she got facial piercings, or an industrial and I heard that she would tell some of her old assistants that worked their before me that they need to take their piecings out and cover all their tattoos before work but she never really said anything about my nose or lip piercing (probably because they were small or she just didnt notice) though before I worked there I showed up after school to wait for her daugher/my roommate to finish her shift with ALL of my 14 pierings in (I was about 15 at the time) and she told her daughter I wasn't allowed there anymore- but she hired me years later .

Plus nowadays most parents have tattoos- most of them have their kids names, intials, birthdays and/or hand/foot prints.

This is my DH. He puts a lot of thought into it and only goes to one artist in our area (which seems to be saturated with tattoo shops). They sit down and discuss what he wants then DH goes back a few day later to see what options his artist has drawn up (he prefers them to take his idea and make it their own, he says he's not creative that way lol!) and then gets it done if its something he likes or they discuss changes and gets it done later.

I have a tattoo but it's not where anyone can see it.

Personally, I think it depends on what the tattoo is. A lot of what I call "biker" tattoos (skulls, snakes, daggers, etc) I would consider inappropriate for child care, but other ones could be OK.
