Dog Passed
Dcg dog passed, I think over Easter weekend. At first she still looked for the dog at home but since stopped.
This week she has brought every book with a dog on the cover to me to read. Ds got out his walking, barking dog and she went nuts. She didn't want to give it back. She is so missing her dog. She is about 22 months. I am going to let Dcm know tonight. However I was wondering if any one knew of a way to help Dcg grieve. Maybe a site I can refer Dcm to on what to do. |

I'd say just keep in mind everyone grieves in their own way. My husband lost his dad last summer suddenly. He grieves by barely mentioning or acknowledging the loss though I know he hurts. Our daughter (6) would cry randomly and quote him for months. She needs to talk about him. We are lutheran so we explained that he is in heaven and he is her guardian angel now. Having a treasured picture to look at him when she needs to is something that she finds comforting. We make sure to sit down and hold her and let her know it's okay to cry and normal to feel sad and heart hurt when someone you love has to go live in heaven with God. Religion is very comforting in times of pain. A picture of your dcg dog and talking about the fun stuff pup is probably doing in heaven might help. We found that doing a set aside time of grieving then doing something fun and a good distraction was a healthy way to try to teach her to move past the hurt but still take time for it and acknowledge it.

If you do ProSolutions, they have a class on it with printable resources for you to share with parents. https://www.prosolutionstraining.com...ersion_id=1851

We don't have any tags for the loss of a pet. Here are some threads on explaining death of a goldfish to a child: https://www.daycare.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35837

Same here she is barely two and behind verbally but everytime she sees a toy dog, she says doggie in such a sad way. It breaks my heart.
