So, I have a DCB 13 months. When the Mom dropped him off, she mentioned he started getting a cold, but otherwise in good spirits - she said he may sleep today (not a good napper normally), He woke up at 7 Mom said. I put him down about 9:30, it took 15 mins. to settle down and he slept for 20 mins. He's been sneezing streams of boogers all morning. It's clear, and he has been in a decent mood, smaller things set him off, but he's not crying all the time, doesn't seem too sick, just irritated. He just ate lunch and PUKED it all over himself and the carpet. He does not have a fever. I think the puke was mucous, lunch and milk combo. It was all over my new carpet -- not his fault, I know - just not fun

Would you send him home, or am I just cranky from cleaning up puke for the past 1/2 hour?

I would send him home ASAP.

Even if it was just from the mucous, one and you're done around here.

I'm gonna say it:
Ain't no body got time for that! (cleaning puke that is)

Send him home!! I don't keep a child who is vomiting - even once and they go home!

I send home, I am careful to say that the child vomited. I've had parents try to pull the "it's just phlegm!" card. And be sure to mention the child will not be able to return tomorrow because they vomited or they will show up...

I would send home - it's not worth the risk, even if his being sick isn't the stomach flu. I've sent a child home before with no fever, but he had a constant runny nose and wasn't exactly happy to be here! Sometimes we need to make the call, even if it is outside our contracts.

Yes. Be sure to say that you will see DCK on Wednesday and hope they feel better soon.

Yep! DCM would have 30 minutes to pick up.

If puke presents itself, the child goes buh bye and no daycare tomorrow either!

I called, Mom picked up within 20 minutes. She texted me to say the child stopped throwing up yesterday afternoon, but now has a case of diarrhea. At least she didn't ask to show up today!

So glad I had him picked up right away, now it's just a waiting game to see if anyone else picked it up. Maybe we could do a lot of art projects at the table... you know, above the hard wood floor and not my new carpet

Any time a child puked I would send them home.

good call! I have had a cold for 3 days and I really feel dehydrated! A child with a runny nose that bad AND vomiting, even if it is phlem, could be at risk, so be at risk at home!

So, Mom kept child home on Tuesday, she mentioned he vomited once more in the car on the way home, but nothing since then - but was experiencing some diarrhea, so she would keep home. Awesome, (me thinking you'd be home anyway for the 24 hour symptom free rule for puking). This morning, she comes and says;

"DCB is doing better, no more puking and no diarrhea for 24 hours. He hasn't slept a wink of nap yesterday, and he did not sleep very good last night either. I expect he'll nap for you, and I'll check in with you around 1 to see how he's doing. If he doesn't nap well, I'll just come and get him." She arrived around 8:30. I put him down for a 9:30 nap, he woke up at 10:10 with MASSIVE Yellow blow out (like change the sheets, and give the kid a bath blow out).

diarrhea free my A$$ I bet she had a meeting this morning, medicated and prayed he wouldn't poop till after 1. I really hope none of the other kids get this, I've been cleaning toys non stop. I did tell her that he needs to be symptom free for diarrhea too for 24 hours before returning. They have the day off tomorrow (he only comes 4 days a week). I also have a cold and it's not helping my mood today

This is a 'crappy' spring break

Oh yuck! Don't you wish you could get away with a "Didn't Follow My Policies" fine for situations like this?
