I have a pay in advance policy. Dcm asked if she could pay me Wed evening instead of at drop off today (child's first day this week is today). I said no. Though I will say I am glad she asked instead of just showing up
I got the "no $$" story as well.
Today, after I voted, I stopped at the gas station to grab a coffee & saw dcm at the counter paying for gas. She didn't notice me and was busy chatting w/the station attendant. Dcm told the attendant that she was was heading out to get her hair & nails done since she had the a.m. off of work & finally had $$ to spend (no idea where the kid was). As she turned around she noticed me & was speechless. I simply smiled & told her to have a nice day.
I am so so glad I didn't cave to her no $$ story. Sorry chicka but if you have $ to get your hair & nails done, you have $$ to pay me.
How embarrassing for her.

Good for you for sticking to your rules!
It feels good doesn't it?!
I honestly and truly feel bad when families have money issues but child care is not asuper high paying job so although I feel badly, I am not in the position to do anything about it so when a parent tells me about their money issues, I sympathize with them but don't offer anything other than that. (even when I know the issues are sometimes due to poor choices and money management).
We pay people millions of dollars a year to throw a ball around for entertainment purposes but the people devoting their time to help raise and educate the future of our country get the short end of the stick.

Good job girl!!
Yeah, my ears kind of just turn off when someone starts telling me a sob story or tries to make their problem mine - too many stories like this to be trusting. Sad, but true.
It always really obvious to me when someone DOES truly need help/a break... and they usually won't ask for it. Those are the kind of people I love to help!

yay for you!!! When I hear a sob story I sympathize and say something along the lines of, I know what you mean, I just had to dish out over $400 to get my vehicle fixed! Or, I couldn't believe how much groceries have gone up! Wow, even the basics for daycare are getting so expensive!
That usually shuts them up REAL quick! I mean, what if I raised my rates

Wonder what she is going to say when she sees you next time!
I always have a problem when people give you a sob story about not having money but when you turn around they are spending it left and right.

So happy your backbone was in working order! Mine is a bit wobbly until it come to $$$$$, then it straightens right out

Thanks guys
As for what mom said when she dropped off-not much and wouldn't make eye contact. I'm not gonna say anything-no point really.
My backbone can be a bit wobbly at times too, but $$$ issues straighten it out right quick!
