He just got up!
Provider definition: child is fresh and ready for the day.
Parent definition: kid didn't get diaper or clothes changed.

I'll pick up "early!"
Provider definition: right after nap and snack
Parent definition: 5:20p.m. rather than 5:30p.m.

She's "teething."
Provider definition: sick and most likely should not be in care
Parent definition: sick but I really just want/need to get to work

She already had "breakfast."
Provider definition: the child had a well rounded meal and should not be hungry
Parents definition: She had some fruit snacks and a swig of Rockstar on the way over.

It's cold today so there's extra clothes in the bag
Provider definition: There's a coat, closed toe shoes, gloves and hat in bag
Parent definition: There's socks (even though DCK is in sandals) and a long sleeve shirt 2 sizes to small

These are hilarious! Great thread.

I forgot my checkbook
Provider definition: I'm so sorry, I'll be right back with it.
Parent definition: I forgot and assume you won't care if I pay you tomorrow... or the next day...

How was his day?
Provider Definition: Mom and Dad actually care about how child felt and behaved today.
Parent Definition: I want to hear only good things so I can justify giving him the bag of Froot Loops I have in the car and he will be quiet for me on the drive home.

This happened today.

"I open at 7:30a.m."
Provider definition: I'll be ready to start at 7:30a.m.
Parent definition: I am going to come in at 7:22 and sit in a chair while you throw some clothes on your wet self because you just stepped out of the shower!

boys will be boys

Provider--they must be busy
Parent--I hope they behave and don't fight today because then I can give them another new toy, I hope the provider doesn't realize that no one wants to watch them because they are so bad.

countrymom 07:49 AM 10-18-2012
they ate a good supper (my post about the eat nothing child)

provider--she ate a good healthy balanced meal
parent--hopefully she doesn't have a diarrhea type poop so the provider doesn't realize that all she ate was junk

These are great!

She's an easy baby!
Provider: she takes bottles easily, likes to spend time on the floor, falls asleep on her own, and is on a good schedule.
Parent: screams half the day even if you're holding her, nurses to sleep and is held for all naps, has never had a bottle, and her golden bum never touches the floor.

Our old sitter is moving.
Provider: The old sitter...is moving...
Parent: we were kicked out for parental behavior/child behavior/nonpayment

Yes, she's been in daycare before.
Parent definition: has been in daycare before, is used to the rules and routines of a daycare situation, and is used to separating from parents.
Parent definition: Grandma watched her and coddles her even more than we do.

These are all so funny because we can all relate.

Then again...that's a sad statement about parenting today!

Provide appropriate lunch
Provider: a protein, a dairy, a fruit or vegetable, a grain, no candy.
Parent: cheetos (a grain), a dairy (chocolate milk), a protein (peanut butter crackers, the kind in a package) and gummy fruit snack (fruit or veg).

breakfast is just as bad.

She had breakfast this morning

Provider: she ate at least enough to tie her over to snack
Parent: I gave her a cookie when we got in the car, she still needs to finish it and here is her sippy cup of milk

She's a great eater
Provider: she will eat just about anything
Parent: She will usually eat chicken nuggets, french fries, and chocolate milk

She's a great sleeper
Provider: She will sleep for an hour or more in a pack and play and falls asleep on her own or with minimal patting
Parent: She sleeps great snuggled up against me in our big family bed at home while drinking her bottle or nursing

She loves tummy time
Provider: she can lay on the floor contently
Parent: she fusses for 5 minutes before I pick her up and play with her

Great with drop off
Provider: says bye and doesn't fuss or cry or only upset for a minute or two
Parent: she doesn't ALWAYS chase me screaming while i run out the door

What the provider says and what the parents hears:
Provider: I expect you to be here to pick up your child at your contracted time.
Parent: You should always pick up your child, it doesn't matter what time as long as you pick them up before I go to bed. No need to call if you're late, I'm here anyway.

Provider: My childcare is closed for the following paid holidays: Christmas, Thanksgiving,.....
Parent: The provider only watches a few kids on holidays and since I work mine will be one of them.

Provider: My childcare is closed for the following paid holidays: Christmas, Thanksgiving,.....
Parent: By paid she must mean only if she's open. I should ask on every holiday to make sure.

Provider: I'm closed today because I have H1N1 and am being admitted to the hospital.
Parent: Cool! The kids are going on a field trip to the hospital today.

Provider: I will be taking a week of vacation on "x" date. It's 3 months from now so please plan accordingly.
Parent: blah, blah, blah...I'll deal with this later and by later I mean that my provider should tell me again every week and then the week before her vacation, when she reminds me for the 10th and final time, I will be shocked, act like I never heard this before and complain about how it's so hard to find back up care.

Provider: Only call after work hours in the case of an emergency.
Parent: I picked Jr. up 3 hours ago and just noticed this little scratch on his toe as I was giving him a bath, I should call and ask how he got this because it's an emergency.

These are too funny and true.

In our center we hear this all the time: I am keeping Susie and Johnny home tomorrow because I'm off and I want to spend some time with them.

Next day, Susie and Johnny show up at 12:15pm without lunch in the middle of nap.

Parent: I was going to keep them home but they started crying that they wanted to go to school.
Provider: They started acting like spawns of satan so they needed to get to school ASAP.

provider-don't worry her friends are here to make her happy
parent-she needs a nap because she's tired and wants a day off but because I don't get one she doesn't get one either and she's going to have to deal with it (yes thats what was exactly said this morning)

Provider calls parent.......It's 6PM.......Where are you?

Parent: "I'm just around the corner"

Provider understands that as "I'm just around the corner. I'll be there in 30 seconds.

Parents really means "I'm about 5 miles away and I'm going to pick up my dry-cleaning before I get to your house and then I'll act surprised and hurt that you add late fees"

Great thread.

Now if I could just think of a way to turn this into a PowerPoint presentation that would have parents walk away with understanding and compliance.

DCK wasn't feeling well last night but is great this morning
Provider : DCK might be coming down with something.
Parent: Hope DCK doesn't tell DP that he/she was throwing up all night until the gravol kicked in.

I forgot to stop at the bank on the way home, I will come by tonight and pay you.
Provider: She forgot to stop at the bank and will come pay me later.
Parent: I have absolutely no intention of paying this woman this week.

DCK is a little tired this morning.
Provider: DCK didn't sleep well last night. Poor thing.
Parent: We were out at hockey until 11pm last night so DCK didn't get to bed until midnight. Enjoy!

DCK can be a little aggressive if provoked. He just needs to be redirected a little sometimes.
Provider: Will have to keep an eye on this little guy.
Parent: This child is a demon and will tear the other DCKS apart if given the opportunity. Good luck.

I packed some of DCK's favorite snacks. They are in the bag.
Provider: Parent has sent healthy snacks for DCK as per handbook.
Parent: Hope DP doesn't say anything about all the cookies and junk I sent for him since cutting up grapes and preparing non processed foods is such a hassle.
