I love coming across these types of threads/forums....
(it is from 2008 but I think the thought process is still the same today) It is a long but interesting read....
(CH, turn off your search restrictions and you'll be floored at what will come up....lol!
)
"Have you noticed how the women, some of whom are former career women, seem to want "the sun, the moon and the stars" from their business?"
"Mainly because the women running the daycares have unreasonable demands."
"Some want to be paid FOR the holidays they aren't working."
"The ones who WILL work past 6pm (or 4 pm) AND weekends AND maybe a holiday or two are the "dirty" ones."
"Sure most of them dont want to work anything but the "princess" shifts."
But then the kicker...... this same poster says:
"My son is 6 years old and has been in 7 daycares throughout his life"

And proud of it.
This Princess worked her tail off for many years, doing the hard work, to earn my sun, moon and stars.
Minimum effort results in minimum rewards, always has, always will, forever and ever.
BC, I tried
. My computer, on my internet, in my home says I am not the administrator.
My DS says she will come tech for me if I will "chicken and dumpling" for him. He also told me to be careful what I ask for.

Ahhhh, so glad I don't have parents like this! I'm sure they get frustrated with me or my policies from time to time, but I know none of them think like this!
the OP of that thread seems like an ugly person inside, glad I don't have to deal with her!!

"I have been a grocery checker for the past 15 years and if you've been into a grocery store you know we are open at 6 am and stay open until midnight."
First: In 15 years she has not managed to better her situation? 15 years and she is mad at a childcare provider for her life choices? I see some serious projecting, here.
No way is she continually working 18 hour shifts in a position that is generally filled with low paid, part-time, high school students. It would not be cost effective for a grocery store. No manager like that would keep
their job running it like that.
It is not developmentally appropriate for kids to be in daycare 18 hours a day, that is not child care, that is more like foster care. **flame suit zipped**
mommyneedsadayoff 08:37 AM 04-06-2017
That was fun to read!
I am glad the majority disagreed with the OP! And of course, she/he had to pull the whole "I'm your boss" card
Never gets old to see them put in their place o that one!

lol...this is funny. how do you compare a grocery store worker to the person that is setting the foundation for your child for the rest of their life???
the only thing a grocery store worker can do for me is sell me a bottle of vodka at 6am when the bar is closed...lol jk did I say that out loud?

If that cracked you up, check out the "Is the term breeder offensive?" in the parenting section.
I have not seen this site before, I will be in tears, soon.
Good thing it is yarn and hodge-podge craft day.
These kids don't even care that I am here....

The first page was enough reading for me.
There are many kinds of nuts in this world and I bet you long term providers have met a few.

Some people have such a hard time putting themself in other people's shoes..."princess shifts"? First of all, many day cares are open LONGER than the standard 8 hour work day...not to mention that the pay is low...
We should all work every day of the year and be available 24/7 just for people who MIGHT need it, apparently.
so rude and selfish.

ahahhahah you can say that again... I have had a VERY LARGE fair share of some "interesting" families
This part was what really showed just how brilliant she is.
"I have been a grocery checker for the past 15 years and if you've been into a grocery store you know we are open at 6 am and stay open until midnight. Work weekends? You bet. Do we work holidays? Guaranteed."
Has SHE been working 6am to midnight for 15 years? Wow, I wish I had her energy.
I wonder what her IQ is?

Not even reading that garbage. Sounds like someone is angry about her own situation.

Wow, I appreciate the kindness of the people here much more after going there...the people on that forum are something else..

Well, you'd think she'd open up her own in-home daycare if it's so great and easy.

And she could offer care from 6am to midnight 7 days a week.
For a minute, I thought about joining over there, but I decided to keep out.

I was on a parenting forum before I became a provider. Lets say I had to stop once I became a provider and saw what parents were ACTUALLY like
Should be a fun read tonight after work!

Right? Maybe then she'd understand why providers who manage to offer those hours look "slovenly" and have "dirty" houses.
They can't sleep, bathe or clean, they are in survival mode.
Many of us started there and learned our limitations.

Good grief! She wanted "affordable" (what does that even mean in this situation?) care for 18+ hours a day and weekends? I highly doubt she was working 18 hours shifts. But she expected the childcare provider to work 24/7? And to be at her beck and call? And be paid next to nothing for it? Ridiculous.

Yes, and we are spoiled princess brats for not providing it to them.
I have people like her sending an inquiry about my preschool a few times a year.
When they hear my days and hours open, which are already listed online, they always inform me, "Well, that just won't work because I have to work!" They're aggressive. They're rude. They're SHOCKED when I tell them that 100% of my enrolled families also WORK and 75% of my enrolled families have two working parents.
I either get no reply e-mail or I get stuttering on the other line and they end the conversation pretty quickly.
Everyone providing care doesn't have to be open the days and hours that every parent in the world needs.

This threads hilarious and im only on the second page! lol
"This year I came up with the idea of working as a waitress until my sons school gets out so that I am home for him and I dont have daycare drama anymore."
This comment has me in tears!!! 😂😂

Actually, folks--this is a disaster. They've figured us out. We're a bunch of lazy money-grubbers and now the jig is up. We're all going to have to quit, and let the OP run our day cares.

It's not clear, but retail is OPEN 6 am to midnight (or whatever) but there are labor laws and she does not work 6 am til midnight.
And as for everything else...it's market-driven coz it's a business. It's called "capitalism."
I understand that it's hard to get cheap, convenient care for those kinds of hours, but unfortunately, our economy is driven by $ not by the needs of moms and families. And that's a big part of why we do what we do...we make a profession for ourselves that takes care of our families. It's hard, but her answer needs to be that SHE make the economy work for her too...just as we have.
