Recently there was an unregistered guest who posted that they had "House Rules".
SO do you have house rules? If so what are they?

I like the idea of having these so that the rules are clear for the children and their families... just need a starting point

I have three major points that I base my house rules on...
  1. You cannot hurt yourself.
  2. You cannot hurt others.
  3. You cannot hurt things.

Any behavior that falls under any one of these is not allowed. having these three points makes it easier for even young children to remember. For example, jumping on my couch would fall under all three points because it hurts my couch, they can fall and hurt themselves or land/jump on someone and hurt them.

I have house rules. Whether it be my kids, daycare kids, my kids friends or other adults in my house. I expect respect, I expect everyone to respect my home and all of my belongings. I expect people in my home to respect others. Also for my daycare kids I've pretty much have the "you follow my rules or I call your parents to come pick you up."

Treat other people, pets, and items in this house with the same respect that you are given while in this house.

1. Listen.
2. Be kind to others.
3. Be kind to our things.

The children can tell you them if you ask.

  1. Listen the first time you are told
  2. Use manners and speak kindly
  3. No running inside
  4. No hands on gates, door knobs, light switches, etc
  5. Do not hurt or bother your friends. If someone doesn't like what you are doing to them, then STOP
  6. Respect the daycare and all toys

Hear are what some of mine are going to be:
1. No running in the house
2. Respect everyone and their property (applies to parents as well; especially when it comes to the provider and her home, rules, family, pets, and assistants)
3. Take shoes off when entering the house (for kids)
4. Use your manners
5. Listen to your teachers and your parents (though if a conflicting messages occur, teacher has higher rank in child care home)
6. No gum, candy, soda, junk food, or any type of outside food without permission from provider ahead of time (mostly for the parents)

How about house rules for both, parent and child?
Get off the phone
quick goodbyes
no loud door knocking
Park correctly
Turn off loud car radio
greet your provider
Don't fight with your child by the door or outside
