I have a lady who used to be a dcm when I had daycare many years ago. Both our kids are grown now and she has worked off and on for other daycare's as well as mine after our kids were in school full time.

This lady is a wonderful Christian lady who is excellent with the kids. I only use her if I have appointments or something right now so I pay her $10.00 an hour since she has to drive about 15 miles to get here. I know it sounds like a lot, but she is worth it.

If I had someone full time, it would depend on the amount of hours I'd be able to give her and then I'd pay her by the week...a salary.

When I worked as an assistant at a home daycare, I started off at $9/hour (I was only working 15-20 hours a week in the beginning) and I ended up leaving being there for years, ended with making $11.50/hour. I was never there full-time, but she would drive her son and other kids in her daycare to preschool 2 mornings a week, and then go get errands done and stuff while waiting for pick-up time, so I would cover for her those mornings, and then another afternoon in the week when her ratios were over and she needed someone else there.

I advertised on craigslist and found a great college girl to come in. She started at $8/hour but now I give her $9/hour. She has been here for 2 years.

I also have my hubby and 2 of my adult sons listed as caregivers.

Originally my mom($10/hr) or husband(free). But they aren't avail much.

I hired a SAHM who has been a nanny in the past. I pay her $10/hr and she brings her 2 yo for free. I also offer to watch her child 1 day per week for free for 3 hours. Right now she is here 8-12 hours/wk. She will be 40 hr/wk when I am on maternity leave for 6-8 wks, then back to about 12 hr/wk. I found her by doing a search on Sittercity and contacting her. I had posted a job in the past and got 0 responses. I also paid for all of her training (but did not pay her hourly to do it) - which was about $150. She has agreed to work for me for at least a year.

My husband is my assistant. He does the cooking, some cleaning, washes dishes, fixes boo-boos, and takes care of our 3 kids while I work with all of the daycare kids. It works out great for us. However, I feel that it may be a turn off for some of our tours to see a man in the house, and I do cut people a lot of good deals on rates to make up for it.

I don't provide back up care. It's a parent's responsibility to make alternate arrangements if I have to close for any reason.

My former spouse was my assistant in the past and I never had one person have an issue with it.

During one interview a high maintenance Mom did say, "Will HE be around during the day?" to which I replied, "Yes! This is his home, too, and he also works here! " She still enrolled. She was a total pain in my hiney until she finally left, though, and I should have seen that red flag.
