Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>How Do You Store Kids' Bedding?
JLH 12:30 PM 03-11-2013
I'm currently using a hanging closet shoe organizer to store my daycare kids' bedding and they don't get pillows because they won't fit. I am looking for a new and better solution but I don't have much space. Licensing states the kids' bedding must be stored separately from each other. I'm wondering what solutions other providers are using for this?

I have 10 zippered laundry bags. I fold each blanket and put it in the bag along with their pillows and then stack the whole works on a shelf in a closet.

I do the zippered laundry bag to avoid the whole "must be stored separately" rule/regulation.

I'm not much help because I keep the beds setup all the time in another room.

My suggestion is that you can put each child's things in a ziplock bag so they can be together.

I have a 5 section cubby for my kids. Papers go on top, jackets hang in the middle, shoes go on the bottom of the middle, and blankets go in a bucket that stays in the bottom section.

Are these like the mesh bags? Where did you get yours?

I never really gave much thought to this. We are required to have separate bedding for each child, but I don't recall having a regulation for storing things separately. But now that I see it mentioned, I want to start!

They are a really light weight canvas-like material.

I think I bought them at Target (under $5 each) when they do the whole "college line" in the Fall.

This is what I do as well.

I have cubbies made out of crates. I use the plastic shoe boxes for spare clothes and blankets on top, dont really use pillows but they would probably fit

I use the plastic 3-drawer units. I use crib pillows instead of regular pillows and one blanket and a pillow fits in each drawer.

I have the zippered bags like BC, although mine are vinyl, I got them from another provider when she closed shop, so I'm no help there. It fits a travel size pillow and pretty large fleece blanket.

Each kid has a pillow, mat and blanket that I store in separate Kitchen-size garbage bags and place on a shelf in a closet. I like the idea of the laundry bags, though. The garbage bags rip easily and have to be replaced every few months.

I wish I knew how to share pics! I just solved this about 3 mos ago . I had each parent buy one of those reusable grocery bags or an un zippered tote. Each child has a blanket and a small travel pillow, they are stored on low hooks so they can get their own bedtime bag and go to sleep. When they wake they put everything back and put it on their hooks

The zipper space saver bags would probably work too and they come in a variety of sizes. Our dollar store sometimes has no name versions of versions of them. Cheap but probably sturdier than a garbage bag.

I have a 6 cube storage shelf from target. The cubbies are huge and they can each fit their blanket and pillow pet in there. I don't know why but they all have those pillow pets, lol.

I have cots now and store their stuff right on the cot. We are allowed that as long as the items are not touching.

Before the cots I used the XL Ziplock bags (they come in a 4pk) and that would hold a travel pillow and blanket, lovey. Those all just want on a shelf in one of my closets.

Before I had cubbies built, I used oversized ziploc bags (not sure what they are called, they are much bigger than the freezer type, and have a handle). When not in use I hung them on their coat hook. Each kid has 2 blankets and a travel size pillow. Licensing here requires each kid to have separate sealed storage, so mesh bags or crates are out.

I have cots as well that come with their own pull string bag. Each child is assigned their own cot and their extras (in case of accidents, etc.) stay in a zippered bag in their cubbies. The cot bags are actually pushed back into the original boxes they came in and are stored on the bottom shelf of a storage unit that is built into the wall.

Thank you so much for posting this question!! Thanks to this post, I've been inspired! I have a whole new system for this. It'll be cleaner for everyone. Less mess with things stacked up, everyone's will be separate... wonderful! So excited! I'm using the reuseable shopping bags for each child now. I love the idea of being able to wash the whole bag if necessary! I have a wonderful little spot for everyone's to sit out of the way, but in reach of the children so they can grab their own bag! Yay! Thanks!!

I used to fold it up and put it in their cubby each day. That takes way too long. Now, I have the kids get the corners of the crib sheet off of the cot and place it in the middle and I lay the blanket in the middle as well. I just stack the cots with the bedding on top of them. They never touch each other and it is so much quicker.

All of the cots are not here since I started putting them down for naptime, but you get the idea.

I keep mine in these drawers A nap mat, small travel pillow and blanket fit just right. We also have a regulation that they cannot be touching during storage.

I was thinking about maybe getting one of those 'air tight' (vaccume seal) space bags to keep it safe from bugs/ water/ dirt when its not in use. I have seen some of them at the $1 (they are also supposed to make it flat to save space). I have also seen some regular comforter pouches there too.

I've never had any issues with bugs, water, or dirt getting on their sheets and blankets when not in use. They are all washed on Friday.

I use the $.50 cloth reusable grocery bags. When the kids wake up I roll all the bedding up in the sheet and put it down in the grocery bag. That way all I have to do is unroll it the next day and put the elastic around the cot. I hang the bags up on the corner of my curtain rods to keep them out of the way and to keep the kids out of them. Them I launder the bags with the sheets on wash day.

edit to add , They all have small pillows too, I roll them up in the sheets.
