I have all SA kids this summer. So a lot of arts and crafts, coloring, cutting, etc. So today they are doing stuff for the bulletin board. My new one who just finished second grade came to me asking how to cut something out. I was like . I asked "don't you kids cut and glue at school?". Her answer was "well sometimes, but not really". Do they really not use scissors and such at school anymore?

Not really. My grandson cut better at 4 than he does now at 9.

IMHO, fine motor skills are gone.

One of my dcds is a 4th grade teacher. He had to help a student tie his shoes.

I just bought fake shoes at the dollar store so that I could teach my 9 yo & 8 yo grandsons and 2 6 yo dcgs how to tie shoes this summer.

Totally true. I taught kindergarten at a heavily academic school, and we used scissors and glue three times. We had a totally scripted curriculum, so teachers weren't free to use time as they saw fit.

Wow I can't believe that. So much to be learned with cutting, gluing and such. I guess that is what we get for teaching to the test though. Sigh. I guess don't get me started lol.
