For me it could never be anything other than caring for children. I am already doing my dream job.

My dream to make it better would be unlimited funds to open up the biggest most funnest play place/center daycare ever!

I just love what I do and could never see myself doing anything else.

Jk! I would love to do something that takes me to different places all over the world. Ooo! Like a hotel reviewer! Is that a job? I would test the hotel and hotel restaurant and the extras they have like spas!

Published Author. Like, see my words, my stories, in a book, being read by someone I just see somewhere. For my characters to come alive to other people. To see them enjoy the lives and drama I created in the pages.

Being a deiner working in the morgue. Call me creepy but my favorite questions are "Why" and "How". I love a good mystery and working with a forensic pathologist is a good place to ask those question.

Not creepy to me! And not a whole lot different from archeology.

I agree. This is what I've always wanted to do.

But if I absolutely had to pick something else, I would love to pursue photography.

My dream job would be to be an artist, and hole up in my studio every day and paint...while having someone else manage the business end, and make me a ton of money.

Second on the list would be bookstore owner for sure.

My dream job would be a budget interior designer - I am very creative and can work with any budget.

I have found that when you have limitation, like a budget, it forces you to be more creative and the rooms end of having more of a personal touch. Since everything can not be bought off the shelf more of the client is represented in their spaces.

I am sure that many of you, I know I have, had to create our daycare spaces on a budget. And the spaces are so creative. I just want to be the professional that comes in and pulls it all together to be cohesive and pretty.

Home daycare was always my dream job. I didn't think it was attainable as a single person with no other income to support myself but I've managed for 6 years now and I still love what I do. I don't love every aspect of the job and I don't enjoy every day but I enjoy and love more about home daycare than the crappier parts of the job.

I would have loved to work with animals somehow but not as a vet. Knowing myself now, as an adult with a few milers behind me, I think I'd have enjoyed working with the SPCA or Humane Society. That may be possible someday but not likely as my sole source of income. For now, I foster kittens for the SPCA and am content doing it.

I am a Harlequin type romance addict. I don't like the smutty ones just the very tame ones. I wish I could write them.

I also am a very good and creative cook. I wish I could make a living at it.

I was going to buy partial ownership in an import gourmet food store but I would have needed to keep the daycare open until it got off the ground. The problem with daycare is the fact that if something goes wrong at the store M-F I am at home with 5 kids and can do nothing about it. So it was the wrong time for me to get into it. I should have looked at it about 10 years ago. Now I am close to having the mortgage paid off and won't want to commit my life to store ownership in a start-up phase.

My dream job: an animal caretaker/trainer at the zoo...... so I guess childcare is as close to a zoo as I can get

or a vet assistant.

Neither one I will ever accomplish..... no way I can get an education in those fields.

Interesting, budget interior design!
I would so hire you right now! I watch all these home shows on HGTV and would love to decorate like they do but 1) Almost everything they think is a "bargain" is in reality expensive and I don't really know where to look for real bargains (except for garage sales and thrift stores) and 2)When I think that something will look fabulous, it really looks like crap when it's all said and done.

If I had to choose something other than childcare I would love to work with animals in some way. Like in an animal rehab facility, but I don't know, I think I would have a hard time releasing them into the wild after taking care of them! My real dream is to have so many childcare clients that I would have to buy another house (like bc) or a little building. I wouldn't want anything like the size of a center or anything, just something smaller where it's still cozy and family like.

Boarding. Dogs, cats and horses specifically.

On the side I'd like to counsel hoarders and help them learn to reorganize their homes and their minds.

I do think I'll make it there eventually

LOL!!! When I see someone has posted in this thread, I try to guess what I think they would say their dream job is before I read their post.

Yours was the only one I guessed right!

Want a dog?!? He is blind in one eye....crazy as can be, snacks on landscaping lights, thinks he is a lap dog (at 225lbs) and seems to think he is king of the yard!

We love him but sometimes I have to wonder what in the world got into him.

This morning, I heard what I thought was thunder....nope. It was just the dog trying to spend some pent up energy doing laps around the house.

Only if I can trade you for an epileptic and consequently psychotic miniature pinscher! He has two speeds, off and mach 10. Also, he barks incessantly, vomits several times a week, needs nail trims once a week (lest his mach 10 leaps into your lap carve your legs) and he insists on hunting down and "boasting" his rodent/gopher kills (which I realize could be viewed as beneficial or repulsive depending on the person, gonna err on the side of caution and just assume most people would view that the same way I do).

We have no landscaping lights, have a running tab at the local pet store for grub and he can run his zoomies with the other bigs (although not nearly as bigs as him lol) out in the CRP and ponds!

Where do ya wanna meet up to make the swap?!

I have ALWAYS just wanted to be a mom to my kids. Ever since I was little I KNEW I was born to be a mom. I am a TRUE Cancer. For the most part I have done just that.

However, If I had to choose something I would like to pursue my psychology degree further (I have my bachelors in Psych) and help abused children or do school psychology. I would open my own practice and also do consulting.

Like luckymom, I have always wanted to be a mom but not a working mom of any kind. I've never been able to do it for more then a few months here and there and absolutely loved it.

For a Working Mom:

Teacher
Owner of a Teacher Supply Store
Owner of a Bible Book Store
Owner of a Second Hand Clothing Store
Owner of a play place (10 lane bowling alley, arcade, party place, huge play place-just a family fun place over all. I have the idea in my head, just need a backer with the money.
Have a show with odd on the travel channel where we go down less travel roads and see where they take us/what we find on them
Someone who works at a funeral home (the dark side comes out)

Ghost Hunter (goes along with #2)
Archeologist (in the US though-love American history)
A historian of some sort
A park ranger

OK, I'm so weird but I love to read the obituaries and see what people have done in their lifetime. Sometimes I'm so amazed at what these people have managed to squeeze into their lifetimes (alot of women) how much they traveled and were able to do this while raising a family! I would love to talk to women that have lived an incrediable full life.

Photography!!!! If it would pay the bills I'd be doing that for sure!

**Either that or a stay at home mom that is just responsible for her own kids and house. I do love what I do, and am partially living my dream, but it'd be nice to be able to drop everything and take my daughter to the zoo or actually run the errands I need to! I get paid on Mondays and never make it to the bank until the end of the week

None taken! I find it quite funny myself! I always tell people that I want to be a clown, only I can't because I am afraid of clowns! I once had a dcp at a private preschool who was a clown. She was willing to train me, but she was creepy on so many levels outside of her "clowndome". She was very different and always "in character" personality wise. It was like she was floating through the sky on rainbows all of the time. Like someone else mentioned I have also drreamed of being a tattoo artist. One of my recent dreams was to start a cupcake stand......but I need a dream that pays bills as well.

My beautiful DIL is a zookeeper at the Toledo Zoo working with the monkeys and primates and lives within walking distance. She is so very smart with a degree in microbiology and could work anywhere, doing anything and she chooses to make $12 an hour working at the zoo.

You might have something there. I'm also a Cancer and my dream job would just to take care of my children, husband and home. It would have been nice to have had all of these years to dote on my children and go to the library, petting zoo etc. with just them but I guess my dream came true to a degree and in a few years my youngest will be in school so I will have to figure out a new dream.
I've also loved researching things and am really good at it. I've found "lost" family members and important information that helped in a legal matter so maybe a paralegal.

I always wanted to be a mom and stay home with my children. Since I'm doing that (and have the blessing to provide the same for other little kiddos), and since we are talking about anything ELSE.......

#1 job would be food critic. The type that travels the world and eats and becomes enveloped in the surrounding culture (like Anthony Bourdain). I am VERY open to different kinds of food (I'm a white girl married to an Asian ), so I definitely think it's doable.

#2 job would be a physician. I've always had a fascination with the human body. My first major in college was actually pre-med/biology but seeing as my #1 ideal job was to become a stay-at-home mom of many children, it was not really feasible. Yes, I was the 19/20 year old single girl who calculated that I would not finish schooling/internship/residency until the age of 31 and I wanted a family before then (as if I KNEW I would find a husband and have children by then haha). The whole doctor gig really interfered with my first life goal, so I changed majors (several times) before settling on and finishing with something that I have really never used since college .

#3 job would be either human resources or a financial analyst. These are newer ideas I thought of when I was working at my last job. I realized that I would be really good and truly enjoy HR when I discovered that I not only knew more than the majority of HR people at my job, but I really enjoyed counseling coworkers in HR related stuff (like benefits, hiring, paperwork, etc.). I know, it's weird. My second idea of a financial analyst is something I became interested in because I LOVE budgeting, I love number crunching and I really really like math (again, yes I am strange).

If I could make money from it I would own and operate my own miniature dollhouse and accessory store. I'd love to own a little shop full of dollhouses packed with teeny tiny furniture and decorations (I'm a doll house freak).

I think my main reason for wanting to run one would be to be able to work on my own dollhouses and fix them up (interior design) all day . Even when I was a kid I never actually played with my dollhouse, I just arranged and re-arranged it over an over again.

I used to sell the accessories (pots, pans, dollhouse food, dollhouse furniture, dolls etc.) online but I stopped doing it after I started doing daycare. My sister and I are going into business together I think and we're going to start this up again. I really need to start working on my dollhouses again and finish them so I need some extra cash to do that (it's an expensive hobby ).

I have another one. I guess you could call it a job but I've ALWAYS wanted to be a surrogate mother. Being pregnant as a job (I loved being pregnant) and giving people who really want kids babies! Best "job" ever. I came very close once. I even got signed on by an agency but they later dropped me when the realized I was in Oklahoma and OK "frowns upon compensated surrogacy" Now I don't think it would even be an option becase after my last pregnancy I"ve developed some medical issues that may result in a hysterectomy and even if I end up not having to have it now, I'm not sure my body could handle the pregnancy. It makes me very sad to think that it is most likely impossible to do this. It has been a dream of mine for a loooong time

When I got married and came to the US from England, I had to leave most of my childhood belongings behind

The one thing I missed the very most was the dollhouse my grandfather made for me. He was a master craftsman and could make ANYTHING with wood. He made cribs for my dolls, furniture for my room (including a "grand-daughter" clock....a replica of a grandfather clock, but only stood about 4 feet tall)

When I was 4 years old, he made me a dollhouse for Christmas. I was his only grand-daughter and he spent months on it. He made a complete replica of my grandparents house. He made all the tiny furniture, it even had lights. It was a one story "ranch style". The roof lifted up on hinges. I loved lowering the roof and turning on the lights (a switch in the chimney!) To me it was truly magical.

When my brother had a daughter, I told my mother to give it to her as I knew I could never afford to have it shipped here. She now has a daughter of her own who plays with it. I often wonder if Grandad knew that 3 generations would love it.....and maybe more.

I completely understand you fascination with dollhouses. If you ever get the chance to go to England...check out the Queen's Dollhouse at Windsor Castle (I grew up 8 miles from there). It is a wonder to see. You may be able to find pics online too. It's AMAZING!
