Released Today: New Child Care Data for All California Counties

Data released today from the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network measuring the cost, availability, and potential demand for child care in all 58 counties now are available on kidsdata.org. These data show that in California, the average annual cost for child care for infants in licensed care centers was more than $11,000 in 2009.

These data indicate, too, that licensed child care was available in 2010 for an estimated 25% of California children ages 0-12 with working parents.

Census reports based on the Survey of Income and Program Participation indicate that poor families that pay for child care spent about 40 percent of their income for that purpose in 2010, up from 29 percent in 2005. Expenditures for other families purchasing child care in 2010 was 7 percent.

How equitable is this!!??
