Wow, I get so much support on here it just makes my day! I didn't do a logo yet because I've been working on menus and other things that are higher priority. What a journey it has been to become licensed. It sure would have been EASY if I lived in this city and this home longer, but my dh and I learned a lot about the community and have completed a lot of work on our home.
The lower level of our home is exclusively used for daycare. One large daycare room, a kitchen/craft room which is still under construction for one more week, a sleeping room, a bathroom which a toddler toilet is going to be installed once delivered, and a laundry room which is really under big construction for future main daycare entrance. That is over 1,200 square feet plus any rooms upstairs we use.
Getting the license was as simple (time consuming though) as it was listed on paper. I went above and beyond so many requirements. I was originally going to apply for a group license because I'm eligible, but the city I moved to has a 6 foot tall privacy fence requirement and neighbor's approvals. We've only lived here a few weeks and don't know the neighbors, but did get a fence quote and decided that we'll wait til spring to build one. It's just too late in the year right now and it's not worked into our budget. I'd rather finish the inside rooms first.
In the last two weeks I've had 5 strangers come to my home for daycare related reasons. I've had two girls last week from CCRR come out to explain the grant I was approved for and to teach me about best practices. I had the food program come out last week and signed up. Then yesterday the fire inspection was completed and today licensing was completed. Now it's time to relax!
Next plan of action:
1. Open another add-a-line phone strictly for business.
2. Register my daycare name with the secretary of state.
3. Apply for an EIN.
4. Create/Print business cards with a grand opening date of next week using new business name and phone number. I have 200 cards I purchased awhile back, so it will not cost a dime!
5. Organize trick-o-treating bags with healthy fruit snack packs and a trinket and a business card for Halloween for all the little kids!

Employer Identification Number.......Its for tax purposes, so you dont give out your social security number to dc parents on their end of the year statements.Whats an EIN?
