I kept it very simply since my group is clueless what V Day is.

My answer is not one of the choices.
I don't do a party.
If they want to bring the others a Valentine, they can. If they don't, fine.
I give them each a very small something. This year it was a Spongebob box of chocolates for 79 cents each.
One mom asked if she could bring cookies and I said fine.
I'm a pretty "go with the flow", and "do what you want without my influence" type of person when it comes to V Day, Halloween, Christmas, etc. with the DC kids.
I don't do a party.

I'm like the above poster. I did heart footprints on red or pink paper and a few brought valentines. But we don't do sugary parties. My group is too young. We just had fun painting and enjoyed each other.

I didn't really fit into any of the categories so here is what I do.
We make containers to hold goodies and then the parents can bring them in to share with the kids. I send them home at the end of the day to be enjoyed by the parent and child. We do cupcakes(mini) and I might make lunch in the shape of hearts.
Last year my containers were flimsy so this year we decorated shoe boxes cut in half and put handles on them. Came out cute. The kids had fun.
I encourage participation but if someone doesn't I don't loose sleep over it and I don't not let the child be included. We just move on. There will always be people who do and people who don't. I just don't worry about it and I do what I want to do.

I reminded my clients daily in their daily reports about bringing in valentines so their children could experience that (some of my clients do the BARE MINIMUM for their own child's survival, yet alone fun activities) and they ALL did! We work on a craft for their parents. We bake and decorate cookies. I have never had to specify that they must bring something for everyone but when I send out my February menu and theme guide I do add a list of the kids' first names spelled properly. (there are only 6 kids total to worry about- 5 is our max but I have 2 sharing one spot on alternate days)
After nap we exchange our stuff and it goes into bags to go home. Nothing gets opened/eaten here.
I have given up sweets for Lent (including wine
) and only 2 parents brought me chocolate this year and, luckily it was just dollar store stuff that doesn't tempt me at all. Had it been a box of Lindt, though all bets would have been off.

We had a party with another provider and her group of kids. We provided everything. We made scented playdough and the kids made playdough cupcake and took playdough home. We did a craft for parents and had cupcakes. The kids had a great time.

We had a "party" that consisted of making cards for our family and then making/eating chocolate covered strawberries for a treat. The kids had a blast and it went great!

3 summers ago this came into light following this incident happened.
We are allowed to do this in my area-in fact is encouraged to do so. This way children are socialized with more children then just the same ones everyday. Many providers meet at the local jump place/a local play place/bowling alleys/children events/libraries/each others homes/etc.Are you allowed to do this in your area? Its funny how many kids recongnize each other on the weekends from playing at other places with them.
