My daughter is 4.5 yrs old and a few weeks ago started to stimulate herself or maturbate. She most often does it while watching tv or when she is bored. I have been telling her that it is something you do in private and am careful not to shame her. Whenever I see her doing it (she will try to hide herself under a blanket) I ask her to stop and tell her that if she wants to continue she has to go to her room to do it. Sometimes she will. She is so vigorous with it that she becomes sweaty and red faced and I worry about her injuring herself from the rubbing (she just uses her hands).
I know this is pretty normal and have had friends whose children have done it but I want to know if I am doing the right thing in what I am saying and if you have any advice for me. As far as I know she doesn't do it anywhere but home.
