Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>How Long Do You Have For Immediate Pick Up??
momma2girls 11:09 AM 09-21-2012
How long do you all have time allotted for sick pick ups? I have written in my contract immediately. Yesterday this meant an hr. and 1/2 for a pick up, due to being sick. She screamed the entire time between me calling her and picking up. I will never keep a child up again for pickups. I will be laying them down from now on. UGHH!!!!! I did write the words in parenthesis- within one hr. What do you all have written in your contracts? Thanks

I allow 30-45 minutes from the time I called. Parents need to be here and gone with their child in that time frame.

Our town is not that big though so I do think the amountof time you give should be dependent on the size or your town and the trouble a parent COULD have getting from their work to your home.

I have parents who work more than 30 minutes in the next town over so I require them to have someone else on their emergency contact list should their child need to get picked up.

If they are beyond the 45 minutes max I allow, I consider it late and start charging my normal late fee.

I always find out where the parents work and feel it's fair to allow them the travel time, plus maybe 15 minutes or so since they need to pack up or if the weather is bad, that's a bit different - but it should all fall within reason based on where they work.

I had to call one DCM when her son was ill and she told me she would call me back after she spoke to her Mom since she was pretty busy that day...ummm ok...DCM worked 20 mins. from my house. She called back 5 min. later and said DCB's Grandma was coming and it would be about 1 1/2 hrs... I will never allow that to happen again!!

This is what I was thinking of changing it to- the parents both work within 15 min. from my house!!!!!!!!!!!!

15 minutes? That would NOT be acceptable at all!

If I were you, I would tell them that you understand they might have work they need to finish up before coming but you expect them to be at yourhouse and gone with the sick child in less time than they have done so today. An hour and a half...sheesh!

I know a provider who charges by the hour. Her rate is $3.00 per hour. If your child gets sick, she calls you at work. From the minute she calls you to pick up, she begins charging $5 per 15 minutes as she feels this is adequate reimbursement for caring for a sick child.

She says it is amazing how quickly parents will get there to pick up the kids when they are bing charged a huge amount for the time she is putting in.

I can't say I would ever do it myself but it works for her.

45 min. because several of the parents work 45 min. away.

I think I will be changing it today to 30 min. should be adequate time to arrive and pick up their sick child. They both could be here in 10-15 min. UGHH!!! SO frustrating!!!!

I have 1 hour, but most of my families either work out of town or work downtown and have to take a shuttle from somewhere else to get there. Altho, I do have 1 that works just over a mile away, and they can never get here on time for regular pick up, so I'm sure a sick pick up would be even worse

45min..... This will give them time to finsih what they are doing and get here. Or they can call someone from their list to pick up if they can't... After 45min it's a $1.00 min rule after the 45min have passed.

I ask them to call their husband or someone else on their list..... If they don't have anyone, depending on how bad the kid is, I may make exceptions. Just like everything else, case by case scenario.

like my hubby....he works for the fire dept...If he is out on a call it could be 20min or it could be all day. and if they called me, I can't do anything either....I have 11 kids with me.

that is why I require they have alternate back-ups that are local as well as out of the city......
