Safety Question - Alarms, Pin Codes at Entrances

I recently had an issue where a homeless man hiding in the bushes slipped in behind me and my children as I entered our childcare facility (which is a MDO/Preschool at a church). I was wondering if anyone knows what requirements the childcare facility should be held to as far as reporting the incident to law enforcement and/or to state regulatory depts. Also, want to know what are the physical security requirements for a childcare facility?

We have had a front door issue at our facility for too long now and I want to hold the facility accountable for the numerous incidences so that they will finally take the next step in securing our school. I would like to see security hired during drop off and pick up at minimum, even if that means tutuition will increase. Is this a rediculous request?

I don't have an answer, but a possible suggestion......would it be possible to have the door locked at all times to enter, then a bell that could be rung, and have a door monitor to let people in immediately there for drop off and pick up times. That is scary that someone followed you in.

If I felt that the area where my children's daycare was located was that sketchy that a full time security officer was necessary, I'd be finding a new daycare NOW.

I agree!

I've never heard of a security officer at a daycare.

The center I worked at (in a very small community) had a key pad to enter at the front door. But if someone wanted to get in, like a homeless person, they could have just waited until someone opened it and would have just grabbed the door before it closed all the way.

I agree that the only way to stop it would be to have a bell to ring and have someone open the door for you, like at schools.

This is a good suggestion and I think it makes a lot of sense. What does the entrance look like? It is too narrow and a hallway only? If there is room they could always make a receptionist area there where the front door could be monitored by someone while children were there. This way if someone sketchy comes in there would be someone to greet them.

I don't think that something as dramatic as hiring a security officer is needed. Just someone responsible to be near the door. If they created a sort of front entrance desk to sign in and out of, this could deter unwanted people from coming in that have no business being there.

It is scary that someone snuck in but what was the purpose? It was a church afterall. He could've went in looking for help or resources or simply just a place to stay. Someone monioring the doors at ALL TIMES could easily stop that.
