Default BRIGANCE IED IV National Standardization Study

Educational Research Institute of America (ERIA), in partnership with Curriculum Associates, is seeking daycare centers and providers in regions across the country to participate in the standardization of BRIGANCE® IED IV. We would like to invite you to consider participating in this standardization process, which will take place in 2021/2022. If you would like to find more information about the BRIGANCE® Early Childhood developmental screens and assessment inventories, click on the URL below:

Participation in the standardization study would involve administering assessments to children in your program. In addition, parents of participating children would complete a Parent Report to provide basic demographic information and complete a set of questionnaires about their child’s development. Each child will only be administered the assessment items that are age appropriate for him or her; all of the items included in the standardization will not need to be administered to each child. All data collected as part of the BRIGANCE® IED IV National Standardization Study will be returned to Curriculum Associates with full protection of the child’s identity; no names or other identifying data will be collected.
The National Standardization Study will include four different sample groups. SPANISH MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE for BRIGANCE® IED IV.
Sample A (Standardization Study Only): Each child in the sample is tested once with the BRIGANCE IED IV. A parent/caregiver must complete a Parent Report for each child. Compensation is $45 per completed and returned Data Booklet, Examiner Questionnaire, and Parent Report.
Sample B (Test-Retest Reliability): Children will be tested twice with BRIGANCE IED IV. Within the designated age-based timeframe, each child in this sample is tested a second time with BRIGANCE IED IV BY THE SAME EXAMINER. The second administration will not include a Parent Report (i.e., parent report must be completed only once). Compensation is $75 ($45 for first and $30 for second assessment) per child for both completed Data Booklets, Examiner Questionnaire, and the Parent Report.
Sample C (Inter Rater Reliability): Children will be tested twice with BRIGANCE IED IV. Within the designated age-based timeframe, each child in this sample is tested a second time with BRIGANCE IED IV BY A DIFFERENT EXAMINER. The second administration will not include a Parent Report (i.e., Parent Report must be completed only once). Compensation is $75 ($45 for first and $30 for second assessment) per child for both completed Data Booklets, Examiner Questionnaires, and the Parent Report.
Sample D (Concurrent Validity/Correlations): Children will be tested once with BRIGANCE IED IV, parents must complete the parent report, and within the designated age-based timeframe, each child in this sample will be tested with one of the other assessments listed. All materials will be provided.

• BRIGANCE Inventory of Early Development (IED-III)
• Battelle Developmental Inventory (BDI-3)
• Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (BAYLEY-4)
• The Early Screening Inventory (ESI-3)
• Behavior Assessment Systems for Children (BASC-3)
Compensation is $75 ($45 for completed BRIGANCE IED IV materials, Data Booklet, Examiner Questionnaire, Parent Report and $30 for second administration of other assessment) OR if already using one of the other assessments $55 ($45 for completed BRIGANCE IED IV materials and $10 for copy of other assessment results) for the completed and returned Data Booklet, Examiner Questionnaire, Parent Report, and the results from the other assessment site already uses.
These stipends will be issued following the completion and submission of all testing requirements, at whatever point that occurs during 2021. Stipends can be paid to individual examiners or can be used as a fundraiser for your site.

• Testing for an individual child may be completed in multiple sessions but should not take more than two weeks.
• For infants and toddlers, testing has an observational format; examiners would complete a checklist of questions about a child’s development as behaviors/indicators are observed. Testing of these youngest children typically takes about 20-30 minutes. Older children will take longer, 60-80 minutes, since many assessments are performance format.
• No special training is required for examiners. By design, experienced, knowledgeable childcare providers should be able to give the assessment confidently and accurately. The assessment walks examiners through the process, which includes age-based entry and ceiling points for each subtest and all criteria to observe and note.
• Parents/guardians would also need to complete a questionnaire (Parent Report) about the child’s development (indicators best seen in a home setting) and the family’s demographics. Estimate time for parent to complete would be 20 minutes or less.
• No identifying information would be collected about individual children or their families. We have developed a coding system that allows each site to assign a unique ID# to each child; this eliminates the need for use of any names or other IDs while still allowing researchers to link a child’s test to his/her parent report.
• All materials would be provided to your site, and all shipping charges would be fully covered. All free of charge.
• Testing conducted for all students at a school/program may span a period of months.
