i know that this is gonna be different for many of us because im sure they are supposed to come at all times of the day..
but i was just wondering in your experience what times of the day do they most often come for the licensing visits in your area?

Anytime you are open. Meaning, any time you are licensed for, whether there are children in care or not.

That means, if you take a sick day or a vacation day, your licenser could still expect entry. We are encouraged to email our licensers regarding days we are closed. They COULD still come and check on you, though. Some people have been known to have more children or be out of ratio, then claim they are closed to avoid getting caught.

I've had one unannounced visit. It was near the end of naptime. I figure most visits will be between 9-4, these are state/county workers, so they probably work normal hours, for the most part. Then there is my mother in law, who is a social worker, and she likes to work 6a-2pm...

.. i know that they are allowed to visit any time during my scheduled hours but was just looking for experiences because i know many ppl here have been doing this for years..

I'm in southern CA and in my area licensing specialists get a list of random daycare's that they must visit each month so if one DC on their list opens at 6am they might start with that one first, conduct their visit and then if there is time go to another daycare in their area. So for example if they show up at 6am and there aren't any problems and the visit goes fast and ends at let's say 10am then they still have time to stop at another daycare at 11am.

I'm assuming that most will start earlier in the day rather than in the afternoon so like for example if you close at 6pm they probably won't show up at 4pm but really it could be at any time of the day.

I've really had them all over the place, but usually late morning or early afternoon. I live over an hour from headquarters, so I am sure the licenser hits a few of us when she visits this way. That would mean someone sees her before me-early morning.

Our licensers do work different hours, because they DO inspect people who are licensed for overnight or late evening care.

I know they could come whenever I am opened (although I believe if I am closed I do not have to let them in) but they always seem to come at NAP time. Grrrr!

I wish they would come any other time but that! I have less than two hours to clean up, set up, have a short break, etc. By that time I'm talked out, touched out and checked out!!

But yeah, they can come at any point during the day...

It varies but I noticed and it was confirmed my my rep the increase in naptime and meal time visits. WHY they used to avoid those times if they could.

Well they have been told those are the times they need to come because it is harder for a provider to hide extra children if they are in noncompliance. Seem some were sneaking them out the back door as the rep came in the front door. I have No idea where these providers are but that is the story... just like our health dept will inspect non licensed areas now. They always could but now they have to. WHy ?? we might be making Meth in the other part of the house oooooorrrrrrrr hiding children.

wow thats exactly what i was fearing is that alot of these visits just happened to be around those times that i HATE them to be LOL.. naptime really would be the worst because i hear they stay a good while and my kids are light sleepers and love to get attention LOL.. one of them was so active with the meal representative.. i just could have hid under a rock because he is not normally like that..

hmm, i see how that might be a reason for them to come around those times!!

Our announced visits are at a time convenient to us (I always have them come at nap time). Un-announced are any time at all, but they only take about 10-15 minutes top.

Once a year!?!?!? Mine come out at least 3 times a year, last year it was like every 4 to 5 months. I had one unannounced visit last year from a state rep during breakfast. She stayed throughout breakfast and circle time

well i said thats what i hear LOL.. i look at our state website and it shows the inspections for providers that are conducted.
they SAY registered are supposed to be at least once every two years and licensed is at least once every year, but they do seem to come quite often to licensed homes from the website .. i am registered.. was thinking of becoming licensed.. didnt know if more kids was gonna be worth the extra visits

I figured there was something to it!
I have heard stories here and there of providers "hiding" kids. I always kind of wonder how they think they are going to get away with that!

I've had them all times of day. 9 am, one right before lunch and i've had one at 1pm. Never before 8am or after 3pm, but then again they usually last 2-3 hours.
