daycare 03:12 PM 05-03-2013
I know this has been asked here before, but I could not find the threads about it.

So I just want to know (I dont know how to do a poll) when your designated nap time is over and a child is still out cold do you.

A) wake them up
B) Let them sleep

Thanks for your reply???

I usually let them sleep, since I know for sure another DCK will wake them....
also sometimes they wake cranky if i get them up.

If they don't wake upon me opening the shades and turning off the fan, I'll let them sleep an additional 15-30 minutes, depending on the age. For my 1 year olds, who are in their own rooms, I let them sleep a bit longer even.

I don't usually attempt to wake them, but I open my blinds, start preparing snacks, the other kids are running all around them playing so I know it won't be long before sleeping beauty is up...EXCEPT today.

I had one girl that I thought was going to sleep until parents got here to pick her up...the school kids had to actually step over her when they got home from school. I try to have them all up and ready for snack by that time...but not today.

Let them sleep! Unless it's been a really long time, like 3 hours.

This is good to know. I thought I was the only one .
I have kids that can sleep through anything. Thy obviously must be tired.

We make smoothies 3 days a week and the blender is on plus loud kids and I have 3 that will snore right thought it. Some parents are upset with me, but if I wake them they turn into devils. If I had only a few kids to deal with no big deal but I have 12 daily so If I can avoid causing devil like behavior I will lol.

I agree, let them sleep. Especially if most of them are still sleeping. What we do is when about half the kids are awake we start opening curtains, cleaning up cots and blankets, and eventually turn on the lights. If they are still sleeping after that, we let them sleep until we are done cleaning from nap and ready to head to the bathroom (it is down the hall- can't leave them alone).

Unless our director comes and turns the lights on and wakes everyone up as soon as "nap time" is done.

I let them sleep too. We are outside all morning, of course they are going to be tired. they play hard, so if they need sleep let them sleep (my mom always said that how they grow, when they sleep) also I have a teether and one who is sick so they need the extra sleep.

It depends on the child/parent. I wake up the few who have parents that want them woken.

It depends on a lot of factors for me. If it's out of the ordinary I figure they must need it and let them sleep a little bit longer. If it's because they were goofing around at the start of nap and therefore did not fall asleep until later, I will make sure they are awake at the end of nap time (otherwise it will become a habit) The age of the child - I'm more likely to let a 1 year old sleep in then a 3 yo (I'll still let them sleep in a bit, but not as long). But as it gets nicer and we want to be outside more, I am more likely to try to get everyone up around the same time because otherwise we might not get out.

All my kids are usually awake by 3pm, when it's time to get up. When they wake up early they need to rest and stay quiet until I open the blinds because it's still rest time. After I open the blinds, they know that they can sit up and begin talking to each other. If one is still sleeping, then he usually wakes at this point, especially if the babies are up and toddling around.

I don't wake kids up ever, unless they are over 3.5 but then I would only wake if there wasn't a clear reason why ( like a late night before) they needed the extra sleep.

If they don't wake up when I turn on the lights and then off the music, then I let them sleep another 15 or 20 minutes

I turn on the "wake up playlist" very loudly and open all of the blinds. The children are loud and say, "GOOD MORNING!!!" which tends to wake up the rest. If they are still asleep, I tap them and let them know it's time to wake up. If EVERYONE is still asleep at 2:00, I'll sometimes let them sleep until 2:15/2:20. They go down at 12:00.

I let those in PNP's (who sleep in another room) sleep as long as they do. I will open the door to the main playroom and open the blinds - but if they sleep through that - then I let them until they wake.

For the bigger kids, I go in at 3:30 (we lay down at 1:20/1:30) and crack the blinds and say "any cutie pa-tootie kids want to wake up". They put their pillows and blankets up and go to the table for snack. Anyone who stayed asleep I will let sleep until 4:00ish, and then wake them up to eat snack. Solely for the reason that I find it really hard to split my attention between watching the playing kids, greeting parents, and tending to the kids eating snack. So I like to have everyone done eating snack as early as possible.
