I have a dcb who, last Thursday vomited here. He was fine here yesterday but vomited again just after drop-off this a.m. His Mom has also been vomiting on and off for a couple of weeks now but husband is fine. Moms Dr. is referring her to a specialist. Now dcb went to the Dr. today and his Dr. is also referring him to a GI specialist. Mom wants to bring him in tomorrow. Dr. states he"doesn't appear" to have anything contagious but my rule is it is "my call" whether or not he comes back. Not the Drs. My issue is #1 that I can't keep cleaning up vomit here, which I informed Mom of (who is very nice btw) and #2, what could be causing such a thing?

I have a young cousin who had this and they never did diagnose her with anything. She’s 6 now and it still happens occasionally.
My concern here is that it’s not just the child but also the mom.

This would be a sanitation issue for me. That stinks for that family if it is nothing contagious, but I would not be happy cleaning up puke all the time. Yuck!

Maybe they have a shared food allergy or gastroparesis which isn't considered hereditary but can run in families? I'd be glad they were getting it checked though. How old is dcb? For me, it would depend on how often and how much he vomited. Is there any rhyme or reason to it...like it always happens right after he eats or is it hit or miss and could happen any time? Is he old enough to be taught to grab a bowl or run to the bathroom or is he too young? Those would be factors in my decision to let him return. You should not even begin to feel like it is your job to clean up after him. I would exclude.

Do they have a carbon monoxide detector in their home? Does she leave the car in the garage running to warm up in the morning?

It could be any number if reasons, I was talking to a friend today who's 3 almost 4 year old just started morning care in preschool progom in September. Rhe child has vomited every day since starting due to what mom says is anxiety. Personally there is no way I would have kept a kid that long who vomited. More then once would be enough for me.

The last two cases of preschool age, daily, "anxiety" vomiting I had were actually caused by a daily jug of Strawberry Quik and chocolate milk (respectively) on an empty stomach during the car ride here. It could be any number if reasons, I was talking to a friend today who's 3 almost 4 year old just started morning care in preschool progom in September. I was thinking carbon monoxide poisoning, too, but thought, "No; Dad would probably be sick, too." I never gave any thought to the fact that she might be warming the car up after dcd left for work! I had an elderly uncle who used to warm his car up in the garage. He and my aunt frequently felt sick but never made the connection until one of their kids asked him if he was warming his car up without opening the garage door. He is 4 and has been with me for a couple of years now-no issues like this. Both he and Mom have just started having this issue within the last few weeks. He vomited once last week here, once on the weekend with Grandpa and then today. He was able to "sav a huge mess" from happening today but of course it still needed sanitizing all over my bathroom. I asked her to keep him home tomorrow even though the Dr. sent the "ok for daycare" note. Love those! Even the note states "he doesn't APPEAR to be ill so he is okay to go to daycare. I have had this happen and so has my daughter, we are both sensitive to gluten/wheat. My daughter just vomitted a few nights aho because she had too much gluten that day. We used to be fine with it and now this or diarrhea/nausea.

They are the worst clients. I have way too many as personal family friends and live to bust their b
lls about it. The slackiest of slacker daycare parents. They are so desensitized and triage oriented.
I swear they are worse than mechanics and their own vehicles.

Something they are both eating that dad isn't maybe? Maybe some food that is contaminated slightly? Either way, I would not be able to care for the little one. I can take just about anything other than vomit and the cause us still unknown.

Just last month my daughter had a virus that sounds similar to this. She would get a headache, vomit, then be completely back to normal within an hour for the rest of the day. I thought it was food related until my other daughter started the same thing and then I got it. I ended up taking them to the Dr, and yup it was a virus that was going around. It went on for 2 weeks and I ended up keeping them home that long. I felt silly when they were fine the rest of the day but I wasn't about to have them vomiting at school and getting everyone else sick.

My kids got this last year, they either had vomit or diarrhea. But only one or the other, it went threw the whole daycare (all 5 kids). It happened again today shortly after lunch. He is sleeping now. I couldn't fathom calling Mom for a pickup again today as he leaves immediately after nap time.Has an appt. at a GI specialist on Jan 2nd and after tomorrow I am on vacation. I hope it stops soon. This is week #3 I believe now. I'm wondering if it's what he's eating. Mom says her landlord is very up on the Carbon Monoxide detectors, so it's not that. Everyone else in the family/building has been fine. So on average here, he's been vomiting 1x per week.
