Is it just me, or do others think that kids "over graduate"? I don't understand the need.

Everything seems to be connected to a graduation. Back in the olden days, we only graduated from highschool.

Today, the kids graduate from preschool, from K, from elementary school, from junior high (or middle school), then highschool.

Yes, definitely over-graduate. I don't see the need to graduate from kindy, 5th, or 8th grade. Please ... Back when I was a kid ... we didn't do that.

I think it is weird. Parents go crazy and get their preschoolers/kinders flowers...tear up...etc.

With that said, I did a robe and cap picture and sent home a "Growing Graudate" certificate and a book about going to Kinder for my "graduates" because I KNOW the parents want that. I do a lot of things that make me roll my eyes, though, simply because it is what is needed to keep clients.

Yes, at my eldest grandson's K graduation there were probably 150 "graduates" with about 4 times that in spectators. Parents were holding their iPADS in the air to capture the moments, but those behind couldn't even see. The jossling (SP) between the parents was unreal. A lot of the kids walked out with flowers and quite a few cars had Congratulations painted on the cars.

I agree! My Dd graduated from pre k with cap, gown and a huge ceremony. Then there is a kindergarten, 5th grade, 7th grade for middle school and high school graduation. This is all too much.
AND....we have an 8th grade graduation party to go to this Saturday! Not to be rude but a Saturday night in the summer is important. The last thing I want to do is go to this on my day off. AND.....I will need to buy a gift. A gift for finishing the school year like you are supposed to do?

LOL! I saw the title and thought "Oh great, someone's going to rave over their DCK's graduation party and I'm going to be the party pooper saying that kids "graduate" too much."

YES! I totally agree! IMO high school, college and graduate school graduations are achievements worth celebrating. PK, K, 5th grade and Jr High, not so much.

......agreed!

My daughter just graduated from 8th too! Lol!

Not trying to sound cheap or lazy, but being a mom of 5, plus the day care children, I'm so done with the graduations, birthday party's, proms...yea it can be fun, but it all adds up to $$$$$$

I graduated from elementary (6th), from Jr. High (9th), and then from High School. Didn't go to pre-school, and have no memory if there was a K graduation. This was in Los Angeles area in the 70's.

Kids here presently grad from pre-school, K, 5th or 6th grade (depending on district), middle school (8th), and of course high school. I'm now in the Pac NW.

I am in my mid (okay, okay late 30's) and graduated from K, 8th grade, high school and college. Had I attended preschool I'm sure I would have graduated from that also

Our district has 6th grade graduation (as the high school is in a separate building from K-6) and high school graduation.

I guess I don't see the graduation thing as a "new" trend, or one that's particularly bothersome.

I just graduated from work today!

Whew! Didn't think I was going to make it.

I'm 45 and have only graduated from high school and then college.

Other than those two things, no other graduations are held in my community.

When I worked at Head Start we had a graduation ceremony for those kids completing their second year but stopped doing it because they decided that those kids not graduating (because they were first year) would feel bad.

I can't wait till Thursday so I can graduate from the week
In my family we have somewhat of a tradition of not attending our own graduations. So I guess we are the outliers

having my own children that just this week "graduated" from 5th grade and 8th grade I don't really see it as an issue. Our 5th grade doesn't make a big deal out of it, no caps & gowns, just a short "promotion" ceremony one morning the last week of school. I think its great to recognize their achievements and to make it a little special for them leaving the school they have been at for 6 years to go off to middle school. 8th grade graduation was a bigger ceremony but I thought it was nice - they have completed their elementary education now - high school is much bigger and scarier.

I don't see the point in big graduation parties for these milestones but they are still milestones in a childs life and I feel they deserve a little recognition (like going for ice cream afterwards, which is what we and a whole bunch of other 8th graders did!).

Here it depends on the school. Within the same town some elementary schools do a K and 5th grade graduation, others do not. My oldest daughter did not graduate K or 5, just pre-K.

My 2nd daughter just graduated from K, although they called it an awards ceremony. No cap and gowns, but they all received a diploma/certificate for completing K. Plus pre-K last year, so she's already had 2 in 2 years

Sometimes I think parents around here just keep trying to one up each other. You start throwing in multiple graduations, and that is when it gets out of hand. At least here. Little Susie and Johnny are getting huge parties for graduating kindy ... and I don't want to go, please don't invite me

Reminds me of tonight at my son's t-ball game. We brought the first snack a few weeks ago. Goldfish and bottled water. Every parent since then has tried to one up the next. Tonight my son got a "gift bag" full of snacks and treats, complete with being wrapped It's t-ball people!

I think it depends on the area you are from. I am in my 40's. I graduated (and had ceremonies) in preschool, 5th, 8th, 12th grade, and then college. As we left one building to age up to the next building we had graduations. I lived in the same town from age 2 till I was 20.
