no its not from teething or a cold. I can tell that dcb hasn't been changed much yesterday and sat in his poop for a while. The give away, the creases in the legs are the reddest. Now I have to fix it and this may be the reason he's been crying when you dropped him off. Grrr, on your days off, change their bums!

I have a parent who is bad about this too! It's really bad when she has two days off in a row. Poor kids.

its terrible! i dont know how a parent can be okay with that. one mom i knew (not a daycare mom, i would never take her!) publicly told me one time she dresses her kids in fleece jammies because when the diaper is full, the fleece will absorb pee that is overflowing and she only uses two diapers a day.....like this was some type of great tip she was sharing. her kids always smelled and they were some of the worse criers, poor things.

Mine is cloth diapered and wears fleece as an extra diaper cover overnight (with fleece inside so any dampness won't irritate her skin. I am pretty sure my kid foes through AT LEAST 12 diapers a day. 2!!!??? is crazy talk and icky.

That is sad. Maybe suggest some tips so embarrassed mom stops doing it.

I had dcb2 that would come in after a day at home and have a red butt all the time. Um....change a diaper!! I documented it every time.

I had DCB's Nana tell me she forgets to change him sometimes until his diaper is flooded. Nice... Usually he comes in a fresh diaper but once his diaper was totally full and within an hour the gel started leaking out!! Ugh I was mad!! What a mess that stuff is to clean up!!

OMG! That happened here a few minute after a DCB was dropped off. I noticed it on my hardwood floors & was trying to figure out what it was when I saw if come from his pant leg! I yelled, "FREEZE" cause a few of the wee ones were about to pick some up!! McNasty!!!

That's disgusting! And terrible that she is THAT lazy or THAT hard up for money she won't take care of the kid! Yuck!

I also have a friend who you can tell didn't change her kid because diapers would sag and turn yellow! Gross! I could smell urine the SECOND my kids went pee and let me tell you, I didn't wait for a 2nd one. Sometimes, I changed more than one diaper in an hour or so, and sometimes they'd grace me with a couple hours, but never did they sit in them very long, with the exception at night when everyone's sleeping, and then they would get changed immediately in the morning.

I always start the day with a fresh diaper change the minute they get here. That way I KNOW they are clean and ready to go, and I can document anything I see right away.

If they are totally soaked from an overnight diaper, I make sure to mention it at pick up. I haven't had to do it often, but calling them out on it just once usually does the trick.

so glad its not only me--but wait its even better. I couldn't figure out this weird smell. I can identify poop from which kid (not a great skill to share with others but with you guys you understand lol!) well I go and change the boy and its him. His clothes smell like mildew musty barfy smell. Its starting all over again.

I use to watch his other brothers and they use to smell like this too. But the baby didn't smell like this till today. I mean guys this smell is so over powering. No, there isn't anything wrong with their washer and dryer they are new.

so I put some cream on the child and did lots of bum changes. Not only did we have less crying but dcb seemed so much better.

Me too. I have had a couple of early risers in my care, so they may have been changed...at 5:00am when they got up But by the time they get here at 8:00 they were over due for another change.

I usually do a pat check to see who's wet or dry and change if needed when they arrive. But after the kids go to school and everyone's eaten (8:30ish) we get dressed and everyone gets a new diaper.

I had a dcd who brought his 2 year old directly from bed to my home early in the morning and would stick her on my couch still asleep. Overflowing nighttime pee diapers are just disgusting smelling.

Had that here too... every Monday the same thing.
This one family even pushed it a little farther....
One day they drop off dcb in her car seat. They are having a family day with the other two siblings. (I'm thinking whyyyyy is the baby here???)
Anyway...I smell her soiled diaper, so get her out of her seat, and when I put her onto the changing table, I see it....
Poop all up my arms, poop on my shirt, poop on her seat, it's everywhere! Dcb had one of those explosive one's. Not just out the side pockets, and down the legs, but up the back, all the way to her hair! It was IN HER HAIR!!!
This dcb was a loud pooper, if you know what I mean, not to mention her bm's were exceptionally stinky one's.
That made it clear to me why dcm was acting weird during drop off....she knew! I called her right back and told her "no way", handed her back her poopy babe, and warned her "never again, totally unacceptable"!

That is so unsanitary and potentially dangerous! It could a serious infection if the feces gets into the sores. I consider that a from of neglect and even child maltreatment (not taking the appropriate steps to prevent potential harm or illness to a child), not sure what CPS would do about it though.

At the FCC I used to work at, it was Halloween day (party and a Friday) and the mom drops off two kids who are screaming their heads off (brother was about 18-20 months at the time and the sister was a young 3 and considered fully potty trained before she even enrolled). They arrived when I was changing all the toddlers diapers. I changed the brother and he calmed down a little (still kind of fussy) but sister was still crying and we couldn't figure out why, we thought maybe because it was Halloween and it just threw her off a bit or it was just one of the moods she gets in. I just changed all the diaper children but something still smelled like a BM (even after we put the dirty diaper bag outside). One of the other DCKs kept saying a different daycare kid had a dirty diaper and he started to cry (very sweet and sensitive little boy) but I checked him multiple times and it wasn't him, but the other kid kept saying he kept smelling something dirty too. Then I saw the little girl still crying and I noticed her white panty hose looked a little dirty and sure enough, she was the source of the smell. Luckily, she had a spare undies but we had to bag her panty hose. The rest of the day they were still fussy and after about an hour or so we checked their temperatures, it turns out they were sick (both had a fever). When mom picked up she admitted that knew they were sick (I think she said she gave them medicine) but wanted to bring them anyway because she figured it was a Friday so she would pick them up early anyway and because it was Halloween and we were having a little party she didn't want them to miss out on the fun with their friends (and of course she didn't want to miss work, but wouldn't admit it).

yup, again red and a rash. Its amazing how they stop being fussy the minute I clean them up and put some cream on them. But there is no excuse whats so ever.

I had a dcm who mentioned her dd had a slight redness around her anus when she went home one day.

A few days later I was at the dcf's house for dinner. Dcg pooped right after dinner, dcm & dcd were aware she had pooped. They both got side tracked and dcg wasn't changed until over an hr later.

I quit worrying about it after that.

Mom was obviously embarrassed, claimed she didn't notice....(yay right!)....scooped up the baby and pretty much ran out the door. Couldn't look me in the eye for a week! But boy....on arrival, those kids diapers were the cleanest I'd ever seen after that, and no diaper rashes on Monday's. For awhile anyway.

I think what erks me is that I can change 5 bums and no one is red but yet all they have to do is change one, how the heck is it that hard.
