I am looking to hire a cleaning lady to come in once a week. She'll be doing some cleaning for me throughout the house...some dedicated daycare space, some shared and some personal space.

Is paying someone to clean a tax deduction for the business?

Do I have to issue them a 1099 at the end of the year?

You can deduct part of the cost of a cleaning person. Estimate what percentage of her time is spent cleaning business spaces. Include some of the time she spends on shared spaces.

If you paid an independent contractor, such as a cleaning person, who works for herself $600 or more in a year, you must issue a Form 1099.
