So yesterday DCD comes in, and makes a comment about how this week DCM will be dropping off and they aren't sure how they will be working out drop off this coming school year. Because DCD has to be to work at 7:15, and it is hard for him to get to daycare at 7:00, and then work at 7:15. I asked what time DCM had to be into work, and he said 8:00, but she works right by our house so it is really out of her way.
It was very awkward. I am not sure if he was waiting for me to volunteer to open earlier ? I am already open 10.5 hours a day, 11 if you include my clean-up time before I leave. I really have no interest in adding any more time to an 11 hour work day.
I understand it isn't logistically great for them, but IF they were asking for extended hours - what really gets me is that DCD's hours are from 7:15-3:00 and DCM is 8:00-4:00. I don't see anything close to an 11 hour day. Especially considering it IS workable, just not convenient.

Ugh. Sorry your dealing with this.
I think the new phrase is put off on someone else all that you can so you don't have to do it yourself.
I can't stand when parents throw that stuff at me in a sly way. Um NO!!!

He probably was waiting for you to offer. Maybe he was feeling you out. When you didn't answer, he got his answer. I would have done the same thing you did. Then if they outright ask I'd say what you said above. I would tell them I work an 11 hour day and I'm not willing to work anymore. Then maybe make a suggestion like "Do you have a friend or relative who could help with drop off or pick up?" I hear whining. 
Mom dropped the ball on him ("would have to drive out of my way") so he wants to drop it on you ("won't have time to get drive through coffee"). 
I would have been biting my tongue to keep from saying "Yeah, It is hard for me to have to keep smiling while people tell me their trivial, self-created problems each morning. I guess we are all having a rough week... Have a safe drive in!"

I have never heard of anyone starting work at 7:15,maybe 7:30 but not 7:15?????? How far do they live from your house and how far are you from his work?

That's what I do. It puts it back on him. He's just testing the waters to see if you'll offer to take them earlier.

I would have just said with an understanding smile "Oh I hear ya, I can barely make here to open by 7am myself!"

He is a teacher, and bus duty starts at 7:15. We are a about 12 miles from home, maybe a 15-20 min drive. I have never heard of anyone starting work at 7:15,maybe 7:30 but not 7:15?????

He works about 20 min away. So I can see where the issue is, but it's not like there isn't another option.
I would just exhaust all options before looking to inconvenience someone else.

Well in that case I may open 15 minutes early but I would charge an extra $10/day.
It depends on the family.I used to open a hour early for a family whose dad workes starting at 5a.m. and mom was a nurse whose shift started at 7:00a.m. but work was 45 minutes away.
I opened at 6 a.m. for them and they paid an extra $20/day.
It worked well for both of us but I liked the family and the girls just went back to sleep on their cots. I will say I've never been so excited to sleep in when they both started school.

I had a dad that need to drop off ten minutes early but it kep getting earlier until it was 20 minutes. It meant in the winter I did not get to finish clearing the walk. A year later when he left and Mom had to drop off I found out SHE did not go in until 9 because she dropped off and went back home to get ready. She had been sleeping in. not a happy camper. I should have asked.

I would have been livid! I can't believe how some parents can take advantage! I get up early everyday and get ready before the kids come and I have a 1 year old too. Some people!
