Oh my gosh who in the world invented the shoes that squeak with they walk. Ugh!!! it is the most annoying thing ever. A year or so ago I had a girl come in those and oh geez her dad thought they were the cutest and he would laugh every time she would jump around or dance, she was 4, I found nothing cute about them. Now today I had another little girl walk in the door with those, like that's really all I want to hear when we are outside. These are the parents that I want to buy the LOUDEST toy for their childs birthday and send it home.

See if the squeakers are removable. I think most are!

OT is prescribing these locally for late walkers. I have TWO with them (walked at 14m and 17m)

Yes that is late.

The "normal" age range is 8 months to 17 months so those would both be considered "late" in the game.

NOT out of normal range, just late.

Why?

I mean, you should be watching them walk, not listening for them to.

I’m guessing it’s to encourage them to take steps and hear the squeaks.

Kind of silly for a 4 yr old, in my opinion!

Send them home with glitter art, tootsie pops and whistles every day they wear them.

No, not really.

I'd just tell them that although they are *super fun* they are inappropriate for a classroom setting and are too much of a disruption to my program. Thanks in advance for your understanding, of course.

I also already have "fad shoes" covered in my handbook under toys from home. Mine started back with those stupid themed plugs that popped into clogs/crocs. I took one away from an infant once and banned them all forever. No lighted, glittered, bedazzled, musical, rolling, or any other obnoxious "look at me" shoes allowed in the classroom. I also provide play shoes to take the drama out of it. I don't like tending crushed little fingers unecessarily or having to deescalate toddlers guarding them all day. We have better things planned.

I am kind of excited about those new sneakers that zip in a half circle from the top of the foot around the toes and back to the other ankle. Will make correct sizing and preventing blisters much easier.

On the late end of normal, yep. These two kiddos have gait issues (tip toe walking).

To encourage them to step all the way down to hear the squeak, both have gait issues and are tip toe walkers.
