Daycare and Taxes>Best Program For Keeping Track Of Receipts, Bills, Etc?
Christina72684 01:17 PM 04-19-2013
I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I don't know what to call it in order to know what to search, if that makes any sense. Last year was our first full year open (only opened 4 months the year before). We kept track of bills, receipts, tuition, payroll, etc on several Excel Spreadsheets where we had to create formulas and move sums from one page to another, and it seemed like a lot of work.

What computer programs do you suggest to keep track of these things for the next tax season?

Are you a home provider or center?

I use MMK it's free with the food program, and I also use pin and paper...old fashion gal.

We used it for a year or so and maybe we didn't learn how to use it properly, but I don't like how you couldn't sort things by different categories (i.e. date or place or category like food or cleaning supplies, etc.)

last year was my first full year too and taxes were a bear. But I was able to purchase minute menu kids for 70$ and it is awesome. My parents love my reciepts and invoices. Almost all my parents have commented on it. I was able to go back and put all my info from last year and print it out for my taxes and my tax lady was impressed! It will figure out percentages and everything. And there are cattergories and I think you can even custom make them. Its the best investment yet! And I like that i can print out at the end of year a form for daycare parents to show what they paid so I can know both totals match!

I've never used Minute menu other than claiming meals. (although I hear it's wonderful!) I use a program from Quicken. I like that it is very easy to use and I can add as many categories as I want, but it comes with most of the standard ones you'd need. I can add discriptions of things and sort by category, date, etc. I can create all kinds of reports for taxes and see how my expenses compare from year to year, etc. I started using this years ago and didn't want to change since I'm so comfortable using it...

I use Minute Menu Kids for everything. I just started using it this year and I don't know how I got along without it. I didn't get mine free though. I paid for the yearly subscription.

MMK! However, if you like the traditional accounting packages I would recommend Quicken or Quickbooks. My bank actually has the option to syncs transactions and balances my books whenever I check my online banking. (It only works with Quicken) I'd advise you to see what software is compatible with your bank account if you aren't interested in MMK Pro

I love it too! Lucky you to get it free - I can get the food part free but have to pay for "Pro". (If that makes sense...)

This is exactly what I have to do . I get the free version to submit my food program claims but pay extra to get the Pro version so I can use the "extras". I think it's still worth it and would keep using it even if I didn't use the food program.

I used to use Quickbooks but I didn't really like to use it. I like the simplicity of MMK pro and how it calculates my time/space% automatically when I enter in my expenses.
