I guessed it was her before I got caught up on the thread. I was really hoping I would be the first one to mention it

I am legally unlicensed and I'm not fired up about this topic. I notified DHS about a woman on CL advertising she had 5 openings, she currently has 12 children and is not registered because it's too much work. She was/is charging $50 a week per kid!

What? How? $50 a week! Well I guess if she has 12 by herself, she would make what I make with 5, if not more. That's insane though.

17 kids total! No idea if it was just her or if she had someone there with her. I couldn't let that one slide. I would think getting registered, doing everything required to get registered would be easier than caring for 17 kids. IMHO!

No doubt! I couldn't imagine taking care of that many kids in my home, even with someone else!

Seriously, was I that big of a threat to a 50 + kid center ( I had 5 kids at most) because I was within .5 miles? Apparently I was, she set her rates to undercut mine - she was out of business within 2 months also lol.
It completely caught me off guard. I knew it wasn't a "mom" who asked that. What gets me is that there are at least 5 other posts on CL that are way worse, almost daily. Why bother ME? If anything we should be sticking together and runs those out. Plus who knows, maybe in another year or so I'll apply to her company. (I'll have an immense amount of credentials then.)
I feel a mix of both "why bother" annoyed and at the same time empowered by it.

Craftymissbeth mentioned it in an earlier post half way down the first page.

However, I don't believe it was QotP. (explanation as to why is also in an earlier post in this thread)

It's a mystery! I'm really curious!

I also think things like this take away from real cases of abuse. I mean, should the government be inspecting a person who's caring for one kid (in some states) and probably not doing anything wrong or the foster family that's feeding the child dog food? Things like this is why REAL abuse usually doesn't get taken care of at all in a lot of cases, because the social workers are too busy with this bs,
I gotta say...I operate an in-home with 10 children here, have an infant of my own, run the household, and I adopted a "REAL ABUSED" teenager (who, for the record, was never removed from his abusive home despite the state coming out many times) and I still turn over people I come across operating illegally. Illegal is illegal...and if I see it I WILL report it. My state's inspectors for daycares is a completely different department of the family protective services unit. It takes minimal time and effort and if more people were reporting ILLEGAL anything then we would have a lot less problems than we do today. Thanks.

I commented before I finished reading lol

Didn't realize how long this thread had gotten, then I saw others commenting the same thing about QotPG.

Thinking about it, you are right. Her comments were more educated.

This person seems to be adamantly defending illegal daycares...must be operating illegally, but then we'd be calling him/her a Nazi for calling them out on it apparently

Given the context of the posts, my guess is this person was operating illegally with one or two kids, and I'm sure took very good care of them, but got caught without a license and is now lashing out.

that lady really had an impact on us that we are still bringing up her name..

BC all I have to say is you have a GREAT since of judgement and you called it when you saw it....

I am so ready for closing time to come..

Why so vicious? Why? Why? Why? It takes sooooo much energy to be that hurtful, your spirit would feel so much better if you let that anger go. I truly feel sorry for you harboring all that ill will, its a burden you don't need,.especially if you are caring for kids.

I love how people on here who are in favor of illegal daycare always go to "helping/caring about kids" as in "I truly care about the kids so I shouldn't have to be licensed even though I'm required to by law". What exactly does that have to do with anything? Sigh...

Oh gosh, I missed this earlier.

A complete stranger who trolls the internet to cause trouble called me a stupid pea brain!

Oh man, now I'm heartbroken. I mean, my whole sense of self-worth is just completely drained. I will never get over this!

I'm not sure it's a true troll. Maybe this was someone who was abused themselves as a child, or knows a child who fell through the cracks of an overworked and ineffective CPS system. Unregistered may be an illegal provider, but really seems more concerned/upset/angry with abuse. His or her harsh words to you, Heidi, were waaaaay out of line though. Sad. Hope that person gets help.

Always kind, Sugar Thanks for thinking of that perspective.

It seems in most states, childcare regulation and CPS/child abuse units are completely separate. It is sad that the resources are so limited, that abused children are not being helped. That, too me, should be a higher priority than shutting down illegal providers. Still, illegal providers are a safety issue, especially those that have many more children than they can care for. For those states that require a license for even one child, maybe their resources would be better utilized if they allowed some non-regulated care. In WI, that's 3 or fewer children under age 7.

I doubt there is one person here that thinks our government uses it's resources wisely. An example of that is the QRIS's. We've probably said it 100 times. Why pour money into a NEW system when the established one doesn't have the money to do IT"S job?

In 2011 , a baby died in an unregulated home here in WI. The lady had been doing childcare for some 20 years or more. She put baby on the floor on a blanket on his tummy. He died. In response, we had a legislator try to change the law to make EVERYONE get regulated, even if just caring for one child. I think the bill never went anywhere. If they can't or won't police the thousands of illegal providers now, how on earth would they do it if they add more of them?

http://www.jrn.com/tmj4/news/i-team/126221973.html

This article actually has the answer right there. She wasn't regulated, but had more children then she should. So, their answer would be to regulate more providers. But, if they regulated more providers, they wouldn't have the resources to check them all, and more people would just run illegal anyway. arggghhh!

As many previous posters pointed out, licensing usually handles child care regulations, and DCF/CPS handles abuse accusations, so two totally different and separate agencies handling two different issues. Both agencies are likely under staffed and under funded nationwide. I favor cracking down on illegal providers, especially those that are over ratios. But they can't do it without staff and funding, and we all know how fired up taxpayers get when a state agency asks for additional funding. Sad.

Just another example of why I believe users should be required to register before posting. Name calling is much more rare when the person is accountable.

I'm a registered user, but I want to say this without getting flamed. Wednesday, you have a certain standard that you want others to use when dealing with you, but you don't use that same tack with others. You've said some pretty rude comments yourself and sometimes you like to add to the drama. We're getting back on topic and you're talking about drama. Also, I've PMed people in the past. A lot of users are tired of your agenda. Michael has already spoken on the topic. Maybe you should PM him. You turn a lot of topics into your soapbox and I know I'm not the only one who's tired of it.

I don't believe there is a reason to continue to talk down to people. I don't know about any controversy with Wednesday, as I don't read nearly every post, but I quite enjoy her postings, as I do every registered user on this site.

It's okay to have a different opinion than others, but it's not okay to talk down to or talk bad about people because they think differently than you.

Yeah, I'm not going to flame you, but I don't see how this belongs here.

Wednesday, sit on your hands, honey.

****sitting on hands ****

But I must say, yet another perfect example. You logged out so you wouldn't be held accountable by other members. You just prooved my point.

Please point out where I have "an agenda", caused drama or stirred the pot, or have been rude where no one has been rude to me first.

If Michael had a problem with me, or any of these other ladies, I'm sure they would tell me (without logging out to do so).

So if you don't like me, there's an "ignore" button on here somewhere. But I'm not going anywhere until Michael or BC tells me to.

Sorry Heidi. I guess I didn't sit on my hands after all.

See. No one wants you to "go anywhere". More dramah!!! I'm just saying, people are tired of hearing you say you don't like there's an anonymous option. It seems like you bring it up on half the threads you comment on. If you have a problem with it, bring it to admin via PM. It's annoying to keep hearing your agenda. Just as you always play the victim card. You make it seem like I said everyone hates you and stop posting here. I just said, it's gets annoying to hear you grinding your ax about the same issue and making other topics off topic. Thus, drama. How would you like if someone brought the same thing over and over and over again when it's not the time or the place? I only bring up you are rude often, because you're the first to get in a huff when someone isn't nice to you. I think we should all be nice to each other. It's kind of hard to honor that when someone is snarky and always playing the victim.

Speaking of drama, I've been logged in with my username for a bit today and so were you. Just as you were logged on before H replied and you said nothing. H asked you to say nothing, and after that you reply. Why? Why not before? I saw you online. Please don't say you weren't.

I think you are really over thinking this. This is a place to go and talk about our daycare experiences, or ask questions. Once in a while we have a good debate.

We all have real lives with real issues, and I doubt that Wednesday is spending one second thinking about this today.

Registered users, unregistered users, eh who cares. It's hard to have an agenda on a place we all spend a few minutes a day to relax and talk to others in our profession.
MOM OF 4 03:44 PM 07-26-2014
Personally, I think if there's a specific person you have a problem with, just PM them. Unless they are lying or doing something illegal or to purposefully hurt someone, there's no need to call them out.

On topic:
I have turned in illegal daycares before, but usally only if I noticed they had a lot of kids or were really bad at what they did and made it dangerous to the kids in care.

I left those neighbors I was PRETTY sure were running an illegal child care, with a couple of kids alone, because honestly I could never really "prove" that those kids were unrelated, even thuogh I suspected they were.

Who exactly started this "dramah"?? That would be you.
I post on this site, 95% of the time, from my phone. So unless my phone dies, it's going to show me as logged on even if it's 4am and I'm asleep. And even if I am actually on this site, who knows where I'd be? I'm not sitting on a thread waiting for responses. I post on lots of threads here.

People don't like that I express my opinion on anonymous posters? Freedom of speech. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. NO ONE has told me to shut up about it anyway.

It "seems" like half my posts are about unregistereds? "Seems" being the key word. That's your perception.

Again, what is my agenda?

I make it seem like you said everyone hates me and I'm playing the victim card? Again, your perception. And honey, I am no victim.

You think we should all be nice to each other? In what world do you consider this nice?

I am respectful, honest, and offer my opinion. Isn't that what a forum is all about?

You are, repeatedly, proving my point about unregistered users. You must feel brave behind that unregistered user title. So brave that you're willing to be ugly about all this.

This is my opinion. I'm not lobbying to have people removed. I'm lobbying for people to be made accountable for being openly hateful, like the person in the pp who called someone stupid.

Don't like it? Ignore me. Won't hurt my feelings one bit. Am I getting snarky? Damn straight I am. Because you've accused me of playing the victim card, being unduly rude, and hijacking threads to suit my "agenda". YOU hijacked this thread.

I apologize to those reading this thread for what it's ACTUALLY supposed to be about. But I can't let this go unanswered. I hope you understand. And if you have an issue with me, please pm me. I am not confrontational or rude to those who are not that way toward me, I can take criticism. And I won't think any less of you for it. Unless you do it as unregistered....

Wednesday, you always have to be the victim. I started the drama? :/ No one mentioned taking away the anonymous feature until you did. That is your agenda, but go ahead deny that. Notice the thread was getting back on topic until you decided to bring up your agenda about banning the anonymous feature. You do it a lot. You might not "perceive it that way", but a least two other registered users do. I know, because I've talked to them about it. Just as I was looking through your posts to make sure I wasn't "perceiving things", you often write things that cause drama. Like when a newbie asked a question and you replied basically saying "I don't know the answer!". Um, why would you reply like that? The board is like real life. Would you go around irl saying every thing that popped into your head? You can, but in some people, yeah more than one , it looks like pot stirring... I'm sure you'll reply how I'm mean and whatever, but I guess that's your "perception".

Well, this is the second time this thread has gotten a little too dramatic.

Bummer.
