Remember all of the trouble we have had in our driveway? Well, hubby got the gate all installed this weekend! Tomorrow it will be introduced to my dc families. I have a feeling some will be put out. They will now have to walk down our driveway which is maybe 100 feet long. I have one dcm that will sit in her car waiting for others to leave before she pulls in and gets her kids, even if it is after 5:30!

I am seriously wondering if one dcd will run into the gate. He roars into our driveway ABOUT 45mph. You can't see the gate until you are at the top of the driveway, it is not visible from the road. I did put a warning on my dc fb page though.

Ditto on what Michael said!

If they're put out, oh well. 100 feet is not the end of the world.

I have the opposite problem, I have a grassy area next to my driveway and I've told everybody its fine to park on the grass if the driveway is full since it only fits 2 cars if people don't park right in the middle.

Yet parents will drive around the block instead of parking on the grass when the driveway is full.

I had to chuckle at the thought of a DCP running into your gate because I vcan totally picture it.

Well, they've run into everything else on your front lawn, why not the gate?! You should send us pictures so we know what it looked like BEFORE being mowed down. Your clients are seriously the worst drivers that I have ever heard of on this forum. How hard is it to stay on a driveway??

Here is the driveway, you can see the gate at the top.

So far two parents with no comment at all and one said he liked that gate and didn't blame me a bit for wanting it.

Looks nice!

So do parents have to park before the gate and walk past it then? Is there still a pretty good length of your driveway before the gate or is it near the road so parents can park along the street if necessary?

From the picture, it appears that if one parent parks nose in to the gate and another parent pulls in behind that parent, the first parent will be "stuck" there until the second parent leaves......is that the case or is the picture deceiving?

Is the gate coded for entry or do you have to actually get out and open it each time you drive in/out? Will only your family's vehicles be allowed beyond the gate now?

Wow...look at all my questions! I feel like a 2 year old this morning!

Almost a 2 year old - you didn't ask "Why?" twenty times!

BAM! That's how it's done! I'm interested to know the answers to BC's questions also.

I have a gate like that also, but it's about 20 yards in from the road... And after the gate is about 220 yrds to the house up a very steep incline on part of that.

Some days I'd love to make parents walk up that 220 yards hahaha jk sort of

There is room for one car between the road and the gate. I am assuming no one would be dumb enough to block someone in and they would be parking backwards on the wrong side of the street to do it (but then I never thought I'd need a gate either.)

There are remote controls to open the gate and then it automatically closes 30 seconds later, but those will only be for family.

One dcm expressed concern about walking down the driveway in winter but I will shovel and salt a path. This actually works out better for me in the winter as I won't have to have the entire driveway shoveled before dc hours.

So, are your clients parking in front of your neighbor's house then? Not sure how many drop-offs you have but was curious about this. What if they block your neighbors in on their own driveway?

We assume a lot of things, I have come to learn, and we are always surprised by what the reality is with our clients. We really ought to have a thread called, "You won't believe what my client/daycare kid did..."

Hmm. Off to start that now.

OH MY GOSH 100 feet? Someone will have to walk 100 feet? Are you planning to give her a discount? Ok just kidding, don't blame you a bit!

I was thinking...if they didn't want to walk that far in the winter then they should have respected your lawn and property. Sometimes it's like we are dealing with adult sized children in addition to the actual children.
