Hoping for Tom here
I am a family daycare. I have a 55 gallon fish tank in my living room that the dck love- we use it for colors, they search fish out (and our crab), it helps with transitions, etc... Can I deduct the cost of it (set up this year) and maintenance costs? T/s or 100%? I also have a smaller tank in our living room- the dck love that but it was purchased for my dd so I wouldn't feel right deducting that one.
Also I will be getting birds- again they will be in the living room. We have watched via pictures and video the stages the birds have gone through. The kids will be able to interact with (safely) and feed them, etc... What about deducting them?? If any of this was kept in my 100% use room I would assume I could deduct 100% but because they are in the family room I am wondering what the right way to do this is.
FYI I also have dogs- but they are not part of the dc and separate. So I wouldn't deduct them.

In many states you can not have birds or reptiles because of salmonella so check with the health dept before getting them

Not Tom but pretty sure he said pets are not deductible
