I have air freshners plugged in - the Glade Air Wick things. The kids can reach 2 of them. Safe/unsafe?

I think licensing will view them as unsafe.

I say unsafe.

My grandson pulled one out and stuck it in his mouth when he was a toddler.

Yup, you guys are right. I just had one pull it out and try to lick it. Sigh...I was hoping they were too difficult to pull out.

Unsafe.
Meijer has an electric wax warmer for $9.99. That would be much safer; you can put it up where they can't reach it.

Unsafe AND due to fragrance allergies, not used in my home ever

We use an Air Wick automatic sprayer that's placed up out of reach. They're legal in my state, but they don't recommend we use them if we have children with asthma or allergies.

Where is the line drawn? What about a lamp that's plugged in? What's the difference?

I can't stand the smell of the diapers! This is the only thing that works.

If there was a child that had a fragrance allergy, then of course I wouldn't use anything, but if not, I don't see why you shouldn't use something, that they cant' get to.
A lot of people diffuse essential oils. I don't know much about them, but they seem to be talked about a lot lately.

If a child unplugs a lamp and licks the plug end, nothing is going to happen.

The plug-in air fresheners have a liquid that the child can ingest/inhale.

Yup. Also, you could also use those box things that cover the plugs of most items (like a lamp or CD player) so the children can't pull them out, but they wouldn't work with a plugin air freshener.

These box things (if you couldn't figure out what I was talking about):

I can firmly state that they will not generally cause TOO much harm (diarrhea) unless the child happens to be allergic to a component in the plug in.

I called poison control to verify this...

when my son pulled one out and ATE it.

The plus side? His poop smelled like Lavender for weeks
