Default This Was The Final Straw Plus An Update

Shortly before christmas I posted about the director at my center being unprofessional for berating me infront of my class and cutting my hours as a punishment. Well later that same day I dropped off my resume to a few centers and within 24hrs a local center contacted me for an interview. The weather out here has been wacky and the hiring process got held up a bit, but I had my second interview with the director and the owner AND I GOT HIRED!

After the interview I promptly handed my former director my 2 weeks notice that same day. I started at the new center monday and I love it!

But a recent incident really solidified my decision to leave the other center for good.

I had a 3yr old little girl in my class who was exhibiting some odd and disruptive behaviors. These behaviors were witnessed by me, co-workers, parents, and the director herself. My last friday there she had a rough day; she was digging in her skin, sneaking food out her lunchbox during nap time, destroying classroom property, and stole other students belongings. This all happened in ONE day. I have been concerned about this child since she was enrolled. Especially after seeing how scarred up she is, witnessing her hide food, take off her clothes during a tantrum, and digging holes into her skin. I addressed these behaviors with the director. She brushed me off called the little one nasty and proceeded to tell me she witnessed her drinking from the toilet! She laughed and told another parent about how "nasty" the girl is and how many daycare's she has been put out of. This little girl is a very kind child when she isn't having periods of these behaviors, she loves being my helper and comforting the others. That friday I spoke with her guardian at pickup about her peeling her skin, tearing up classroom property and stealing from the other children. Apparently, she gets destructive out of spite (director had her in timeout for over an hour!) and frustration. The child apologized, gave me a hug, and told me she would do better. Her guardian said that she has been showing these behaviors at home and is working on getting her in therapy because there are issues with birth mom as well (there is frustration between guardian & birth mom). She thanked me for showing concern and for being so patient with her.

So about 45 mins later birth mom calls the center and tells the director that I criticize her child, pick on her, and am mean to her. None of which is true. I am just the only person who has addressed her behavior. Birth mom has never met me in the 4 months her child had been in my class. My director told me that I was out of line and is glad that Im leaving because I don't know my place. She said we should't tell parents anything about their child's day because "they don't care about their kids and thats why they are here"

So I quit on the spot right after that.

I have questioned so many of this directors practices since I began there, but this past week validated everything. I refuse to participate in unethical practices I am going to file a report with the state.

Please keep this little girl in your prayers, shes a sweet little girl who needs help.

Thanks for listening,
Doing what you think is right is so hard sometimes...

OMG that director is completely out of line!! Can you report her to licensing?? Never should she be discussing children with other parents or totally disregarding the child's behaviors as 'nasty' when the little girl clearly needs some help.

Wow, you made the right move. Report that director! It's a shame she's even working with children.

Yep!!!! THIS RIGHT HERE!!!
REPORT TO LICENSING. I would also make sure to report the situation w/ the girl to them and ask what to do because you know the girl needs help and out of that place with that evil woman. With you not there, no telling what will happen to her!

My mouth hit the table. What a horrible attitude. She does need to be reported.
How sad it must be to think the thoughts she thinks.

Glad your new job is going well!

Thank you ladies. I faxed a written complaint to licensing and informed them of the situation with the little girl. Luckily, I documented everything from the director not supplying gloves to the behavioral situations. I don't wish ill on others but I hope she gets her license revoked for the safety and well being of the children. No child should be in her care.

But I had an awesome first week at my new job with my class of 2 year olds.

Congratulations on your new job. You did the right thing as far as the last director is concerned. I hope something is done to remove her from her job. She truly should not be working with children in any capacity.
