Thought it was a bit slow here on the boards and it might just be my turn to throw up a few threads. I enjoy reading the boards when I have spare time.

#1 What is something in your daycare that you really like a lot that makes your day go better, maybe something you use everyday or just something your grateful for having?

I really like that my TV has all different music genres on it and at nap I channel it to relaxing music for the kids. I don't use my TV very often at all for the kids other then the music. It's a big treat when the TV actually gets put on a show during the day. I can't remember when the last time I did this was. I am not against TV, I am just more for playing and imagination play.

Feel free to stay on topic or go off as I find this makes the threads interesting-

You took my answer!!! I love the kids music station on my tv as it's a blank screen - so really I'm just using the speakers. I do have Pandora on my ipad, but no extra speaker so it's not really loud enough when we are doing active music games.

But I guess my other answer would be my iPad. I swore I would not use it for dc purposes, but find myself taking pics of the kids and sending them off to their parents easily (I have an old tracphone for a cell) We listen to music on it and in the winter we sometimes have a children's book "read" to us (love YouTube!)

My house floor plan, it's AWESOME for daycare. I have a small front entry/mudroom, a large 'great' room for daycare space, a bathroom right off of that, a separate nap room, a 3 season room with a deck off of that, and a large, fenced in backyard off of that. My backyard has a concrete patio (now our bike area) so I never have to have 8 kids in my driveway/front of the house to ride bikes. The ONLY thing I dislike is that I can't see the playroom from the kitchen, but we go into the dining room during lunch prep.

Coffee!! j/k!

I my "extra" backyard, we call it the field of fun. We have a small manicured backyard area (patio, little lawn, flowers..) that is lined with big 10ft bushes and just on the other side is a large open (but fenced) area 4x the size of our nice backyard so that's where all the kids stuff goes Some days we'll hang out there for hours, when we're having an off day (and its not pouring rain) out we go!

I love iTunes and letting kids listen to audiobooks during nap. They fall asleep even listening to action packed stories!

I love the location of where I live. We have a greenbelt directly behind us that we walk in to get to two parks with a field in between with a pond in front. I love being out there in the mornings before it gets too hot.
A friend of mine said I look like a pregnant duck with my baby ducklings waddling after her each morning. It's true. We do. The children have a buddy they hold hands with and they all walk behind me.

As soon as we can get our backyard all up to licensing standards, I will LOVE our backyard. It's large, has a nice play set in it, and I can see us easily spending hours out there. (Right now we use our back deck, which is a good size, but it doesn't provide enough space for a lot of running and games).

For my own kids - I love that we live on a cul-de-sac. They can ride their bikes/tricycles down in there, around and around and around, and I have to drag them back in haha. Also, it has a small dip in the middle, which gives us an excellent jumping puddle after a rain shower (which we've been having a lot of lately). DD is gone this afternoon, so I'm thinking I might let DCG borrow her rain boots and we'll head out there after naps if the rain lets up.

My hubby built me an awesome tabletop with a 1.5" lip around it. It's completely portable so I can sit it on the kitchen table, the dining room, outside or even on the floor if necessary. It keeps all of the small bits and pieces of the bigger kids toys, projects, bins, etc contained so I don't have to worry about the littles getting to them.

I don't have a lot of room in my house for dedicated daycare furniture so this has worked out perfectly.

My crock pot! I actually have 3 and use them daily. I love putting lunch in 1 and dinner in the other and at mealtimes everything is ready. I don't like leaving the kids to go cook so the crocks are wonderful.

My video camera.

Allows me to be in many places at once.

Of course it doesn't take the place of direct supervision but it sure helps for those moments I need to look away or be in two places at once.

I wanted to comment on the TV thing too.....I LOVE that we no longer have one. NOT dissing anyone who uses theirs.

I can't believe the difference in the way the kids play since we no longer do any type of TV/movies.

My Apple TV. I can upload all of my daycare music onto my iTunes library and all of my digital copies of kids movies and control everything with my apple TV. No more lost, smudged or scratched discs and no more fishing around looking for a particular disk or song. I love that I can create playlists for music for my daycare and play them easily. Nap-time playlist for nap-time or music/songs/read-aloud books for an entire week in one playlist.

I also like that I can access youtube with it so I can create my "favorites" list for a particular week (like a video about the life cycle of a butterfly) and then play it easily on our big TV without having to go on my laptop and having the children struggle to watch it on my laptop.

That is a good idea. I never thought of that. What types of books do you download? Do you get them from the library? Hope you don't mind me borrowing your idea.

I like my landline telephone because it announces who is calling. We just replaced ours that talked and then got another one. It showed who was calling but didn't 'say' who was calling. So my husband sent it back and ordered one that announced who was calling. I love not having to get up if it is just somebody selling something or a nuisance call.

It is also cute because you can program any name in it. My one adult son is Matt Damon, the other one Snake Plisken, my husband is Albert Einstein. So it will say "Matt Damon is calling." My daughter and I haven't thought of a good name yet.

bumping this up because of some great ideas here and I hope to hear of more

I will add another one....

yes yes and yes on the coffee pot or keurig Starts my morning off every day- and sometimes helps my afternoon too

I like my scentsy warmers. They keep the daycare smelling fresh, not that it smells bad but they just give a plus up on the scent department. I tend to like the linen smells, soft clean scents. I love the food ones but they make me hungry all day. I do switch over come fall and winter to the warmer scents.

Fun little thread-
