My own guy did this a couple months ago with a toy drill bit, but he pooped. Oh the fun.

It was very immature of me but as I dialed her phone number, I was kind of chuckling at her last name and thinking how embarrassing it must be to share a name with the actress in an infamous porn movie. Someone on the other end of the phone answered the call and I asked to speak with Judy Lovelace. When Judy came to the phone and said hello, without thinking I said, "Hi. Linda?" Thank goodness she had a sense of humor!

That memory led to another; same job. I answered a call from a customer asking to speak with "Ane-yone". I explained there was no one there by that name and asked if I could help her with something. She got angry with me and insisted she was told to call our number and ask to speak with Ane-yone. I again explained there was no one by that name there but I had access to her file and could help her. She put the phone down for a minute, saying she was going to check the message her co-worker had given her. In the background, I could hear hysterical laughter. She came back to the phone apologizing. The message she got said to call our department's 800 number and that "anyone" would be able to help her.

Sitting here at my desk, the sun shining in through the windows, cool breeze across my face, reading my book with toddler tunes playing.

I suddenly realize it is really quiet. No banging blocks, no snapping magnet sets. I look around and panic a bit because I see no children.

I have already taken everyone to the door, signed them out and for no reason at all sat back down at my desk. I have been "off work" for almost 15 minutes and am home alone.

Is this how it starts? The slow slide into madness?

DW was at work yesterday and realized the person she was talking to looked real familiar. It was a DCM from my center days. DCM had a picture on her ipad of me and my 2 year old class including her daughter. The reason it was on her ipad- she was putting together a digital picture montage for her daughter's HS graduation.

I'm old and been doing this way too long.

Well, you do have to get it on the air or you won't make any money off of it.

DH texted "First time in 3 years I take Good Friday off, and one of my teams gets arrested for cocaine and hookers on the company truck." A little TOO good of a Friday, if ya knowwhadImean.

Um, wow. "Thinly sliced cremini mushrooms..." etc. If my own children asked this of me, their mother, I would feel like I had failed massively as a parent. But that may be because one of my parenting goals is to teach my kids how to live simply and that "it's not all about you."

Because our church is pretty close knit, a few meals and some help is often the norm after a baby. But a person who got too picky for a non-medical reason would be considered a bit of a pain in the neck.

One of my neighbors would likely receive a loaf of bread and some soup. Which would probably be what my own family was eating for dinner.

Um, wow. How much soy and X has that guy ingested during his lifetime??

“A meal would be awesome. If you feel comfortable reaching out before you arrive to see if we might need anything else — that'd be even more awesome.”

Included in their list of requests were their favorite meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including paleo breakfast egg muffins with thinly sliced cremini mushrooms, chocolate peanut butter energy balls and lamb meatball stew with orzo.

If we could use some food but prefer no distractions, I’ll put a big white cooler in our side yard,” Burns wrote.

I am fairly confident what would be in the flaming bags my neighbors would leave him. Dude better learn how to make a grilled cheese sammich.

"Childcare needed. Random hours, lousy pay, bad kid but this Mom needs to go back to school for things to get any better. Will be grateful for any help you can give."

I like her.

She had 3 offers in minutes.

One of my families is about to head off to Disneyland. Dcb5, who has severe speech delays, keeps trying to tell me that he and his dad are going on the Buh-wy-eah ride. It sounded an awful lot like he was saying they were going on the Budweiser ride.

I finally had to ask dcd to clarify. Turns out there's a Buzz Lightyear ride. Phew!

Me: No. (silence)
Dcm: (silence). Then “oh because you have carpet”
Me: yes and It’s unsanitary. Let me go remove his diaper so he can be diaper free at home
DCM: NO! I have wood floors and he’d Ruin them
With peeing & poop!!!
Me: But he REALLY should be diaper free. You just said it and o AGREE 100%. (Silence)
Dcm: snowflake! It’s time to go home!!!!

"Miss Pepperth, you look just like Anna from frozen with the white stripe in your hair." This, from a 5 year old, is a major compliment...I think.

2.5 yo dcg does not want to sleep. As long as she stays in one place, there isn't much more I can do. Have tried everything short of hog tying and duct taping. So she's in there just chattering away, talking about anything and everything, some words I can understand but some gibberish. Very cute gibberish. So my phone rings and she answers it(not really) says hewwo and just keeps talking to someone she's imagining. Maybe it's one of those times you just had to be here but she's so darn precious and sweet. I'm gonna miss this little munchkin.

Uhoh she just came tiptoeing around the corner.

This started out as something vent worthy but in the end is actually kind of funny....

DCD comes to pick up. DCM does 95% of all drop offs/pick ups but has something going on this week so DCD is doing it all. He's done it before and let's just say he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but he's a nice enough guy...just doesn't seem to have a clue about parenting...(and this is #2 child). Child just turned 2 yrs old a few weeks ago.

Anyways DCD comes to pick up. DCK is ready to go. I change everyone and give them a little "freshen up" (wiping faces/hands and checking clothing) just prior to when I know they'll be picked up so everyone goes home fresh and clean.

DCD gets child. They are gone for about 10 minutes and he returns. I thought they maybe forgot something...

Nope. DCD comes in carrying DCK and says: "Miss BC, we've got a little situation here."

Me "Oh, what's wrong?"

DCD: "DCK had a blow out in the car and needs new pants"

THEN HE ATTEMPTS TO HAND DCK TO ME OVER THE GATE!

I back away and say "DCK has extra clothing in their cubby basket" and I point towards the basket.

DCD looks a bit dumbfounded.
I just know he's waiting for me to take care of it.

He asks if I have a plastic bag and a few wet wipes....

I hand him a bag and assume he is going to change DCK.

Nope, he just stands there.

After a few minutes...he says "Well I suppose I can just take DCK home."

SO he scoops DCK up and walks back to the car.

Daycare hack:
When the kids realize the sidewalk disappeared during nap time, tell them they're all detectives and their job is to find out where the sidewalk went.

Enjoy 20 minutes of children getting along, and a hot cup of coffee, while the detectives do their detecting.

Thankfully it was croppable.

New infant starts tomorrow. So over the weekend I set up pack& play and rotated in a couple baskets of infant toys. DCG3 (a bit a "look at me" diva) comes in, takes one look, and goes "Why are those there?" When I explained I had a new baby girl starting she was not happy. Been moping about the baby coming into "her" space all morning. Sorry kiddo- you won't be the only girl or the youngest anymore.

Facebook memory today of why I talk to DCPs about how they talk around DCKs. DCG4 in little tykes car pulls up behind another car, leans her head out the window, & yells “Move Dammit!”

Dory & Nemo start going insane out back- growling, snarling, barking. I look out the window and they are in full "defend the realm" mode over a frog. Funniest thing was it would hop closer to them and they would yelp and jump back. Then go right back to acting mean and tough. As long as they stayed 4 feet away from the vicious invading frog monster.

Changed brand of toilet bowl cleaner tabs. This one turns the water blue. This is completely unacceptable and wrong to DCG4.

The kids here love my blue toilet water! Sometimes, the water will get a greenish tint when the kids pee into it. We consider it to be a sign that that child has "Magic Pee"! It's amazing how many kids will start using the potty just to see if their pee is magic, too!

I just did an oops. Not dc related but my dh is always up for work at 5 so I go about my business, it's 5:15 and I'm getting a little worried. I wake him up and ask if he's going to work. He asks me what day is it.
Oops. It's Saturday.

Default Where's the rum?

DCM came in this morning with a rum cake for our family. She says,"It's pretty potent, so you might want a coke with it, and you should probably wait until naptime to try it!"

I began my day by walking into my classroom to discover a race bike and travel case in the middle of the floor.

Ah the joys of running a daycare and being married to a triathlete.

Last half hour of the day before outside time and can't find dcb socks. I don't know what the heck is going on because if you saw my daycare there's literally no where the kids can reach to hide them at that point of the day. Now it's outside time just gonna put spares I guess to take him out. I'm totally perplexed. We're outside playing now and parents are going to start picking up. How am I gonna tell parents the kids wearing spares because his socks evaporated? Sunlight's shining down on these little cutez and... what's this? Dcb onesie is looking kinda... lumpy...

I had a kid hide there socks in the front of a fire truck. The doors opened on it but you realy could not get much in there. Found them almost two weeks after they went missing. I had torn the playroom apart not understanding where they went.

My 3 year old dcb was coughing, so I said, "can you please catch your cough in your elbow?"

He replied, "nope"

So I told him he couldn't sit near the baby. He hops up. moves his chair across the room, and sits back down. He wasn't being snarky, just made the decision that moving his arm was too much work, but moving across the room was perfectly possible.

Typical 3 year old!

So my DH and I were talking with the daycare kids at lunch today about all the different kinds of foods there are and which ones they’ve eaten before etc...
DCB (4yrs) says “yeah we went to the Chinese place and they have cookies with manuals”

I asked “manuals?”

He said “yeah you break these cookie things open and there’s this paper inside that tells you what you’re suppose to do”

One of those "streams crossing" moments I seem to find myself in. Put a new big plastic tube in the classroom. Kids are having fun using it with matchbox cars. I wonder what the reaction of my "kind of hippie" DCM will be if she finds out it's the protective sleeve out of a 120MM tank ammo container I bought to use as an oil tank in my shop.

That awkward moment when your "Not a Chance" list becomes longer than your Waitlist. I'm there.

Local Facebook mommy groups have become such a fantastic free interviewing and screening tool. I do hope the trend of entitlement ends soon.

YES!

I now have a FEE attached to my wait list. It's small, but it shows serious intent and I will refund within a year of anticipated enrollment date (childs age+expected opening=date I set)

I have 5 on it and 10 never even offered the paperwork.

Found a great deal on a couple trainer AEDs for when we teach First Aid/CPR. They were on the dining room counter. Mil thought they were real ones even though they say TRAINER across the front. Now she is convinced I’m so sick I need an AED on standby.

I was sending kids to potty one at a time, before we headed outside. The ones waiting their turn were getting shoes out of their cubbies.

Me: “Let’s sing some songs while we get ready to go outside.”

3 yr old boy (my grandson) immediately starts belting this out: “I’m a fool to do your dirty work.....oh, yeah.”

I don't have any kids here today, so I'm doing some deep cleaning and sorting. I don't have my ringer on, so didn't realize I had missed a call. When I checked later, I saw that I missed a Facetime request from one of my little's mom, and a text that said J wanted to Facetime with you, and when you didn't answer he wanted to try to Facetime with Courtney (my daughter and assistant).

Sorry, mom, I'm not sitting by the phone! I do love that he just wanted to see us - although he was trying to call during naptime, so I dread the return of everyone and trying to get them all back on schedule!

DCG4 is “cross” ( her word) at DW because I made the mistake of telling her that I didn’t get any gifts on my Birthday yesterday. DCG is not convinced that spending the day in my shop, take out from local Mexican restaurant, & a cheesecake is really what I wanted.

Hopefully she gets over it soon. lol Happy Birthday! My husband's is tomorrow. Under the circumstances, he said he'll be happy just getting his favorite cake. Thankfully, I thought to pick up the cake mix and frosting before we got the "stay home" advisory.

D14m comes back full time next week after almost 2 months at home. She’s coming for a few hours today & half day Thursday to get back used to the place. Her and new DCB 8 months are alternating between circling each other like 2 cats with 1 tree or being the skunk & cat from Bugs Bunny. I think they’ll get along just fine.

My 4 year old decided that daddy should give him an X haircut. So cut an X into his hair, we are not great haircuts and only do a one level cut with shaver. But he wants it so he can be a treasure.

He likes pirates, and hunting. Buts it's cute to hear him say he wants an " X so he can be a treasure"

No DCB7- if I won’t let you play Avengers I’m not going to let you get away with doing something with “Steve, Tony, & Bruce”. Nice try kiddo.

3-year old stands and announces "I am done playing for today. I want to watch movies, now".

Nice try. Bonus points for the dramatic wiping sweat off the brow montage.

Had a ton of rock dropped off this morning for the base of the driveway. DW decided rather than wait till I’m done for the day (Original plan) she’ll shovel it then and there. Retired neighbor sees the truck and by the time DW had scooped a dozen shovels has his Kubota out and is offering to spread it out for her. So DCKs got to watch rock being delivered/ dumped & a tractor this morning.

One of those insane "stream crossing" moments I find myself in way too often. Delivery for shop came early, so I found myself quickly folding and moving stroller out of the way to make room in garage for the hydraulic forging press that showed up.

I wouldn't actually do it, but I really want to call DCPs and say "Come get your kids now so I can go play with my new toy!"

Two pre k girls talking

Mary: I have a big back!
Anna: I have a big back too!
Mary: Yeah, we have big backs like Miss Sara!!

All this was said while they were wiggling their bottoms!

Names have been changed.

Me- Do you have to go potty?
GirlA(4)- No, I just have a wedgie *resumes picking*

Me: what kind of birds brought Elijah food?
GirlA(4): Raisins!

Me: What kind of foods do you NOT like?
GirlB(4):Cold hamburger helper...

*throughout the day*
Boy7: Where are the boys today?
Boy7: How come I'm the only boy?
Boy7: Will the other boys be here next time?

Me: *gives out reward to all but one student (girl5)*
Did we miss anybody?
Boy7: I miss the boys....

A former dcm is always posting pictures and video clips on FB, which I absolutely adore btw. I miss them so much. But anyways, I saw a short clip yesterday of 1 of her dds, soon to be 4 yo, cutest little thing ever. She was in one of those Sumo wrestler type inflatable get-ups and was battling it out with a little cousin of hers. OMG it was soooo adorable. Guess ya had to see it.
