I believe each state differs in regards to grants or funding. Which state do you live in?

DSS funds contracts with child care resource and referral agencies which perform a variety of services for the families and child care providers in this state. Resource and referral agencies educate parents on how to recognize good child care and refer them to child care facilities operating near their home or workplace. They also help to build the child care supply by encouraging providers to enter the child care market or to expand their operations. Resource and Referral also offers technical assistance to child care providers to help them meet licensing or registration requirements and improve the quality of the care the children receive. A list of Resource and Referral Agencies follows.

Where could I look to get grants for the set up of my in home preschool center. I intend to allow all children including those with special needs ( as I have an autistic daughter who I could not find any care for outside of the public school system) I want to give parents with special needs children the relief that there is a place to enroll their children.
thanks,
KIM

Another good source to find information on grants is the Child Care Resource and Referral office in your area. I've been working with the county licensor to get my daycare license and though she may not have all the information she has been able to direct me to the people that do. You could also call your county (or who ever licenses daycare facilities) and ask them for direction.

[hi there is grants out there but it is very hard to get. you have to attend workshops and some are not free. some time and all of the time you will have to come out of pocket. look in to your local social serivces office. You seem to be very resourceful in helping everyone from other states, I was wondering if you had any resources on where would be a start for me to look in the state of Illinois?

In Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas there is a non-profit agency that offers low interest loans and technical assistance to both child care centers and family child care providers. It's called First Children's Finance: www.firstchildrensfinance.org.
I've been on their board of directors for many years.

Thanks, Tom. we tried that link first. Did not see any results for the Illinois post. We get a lot of requests for funding and grants at Daycare.com. We will direct them to your site suggestion.

Contact your local Childcare Resource and Referral. I know there used to be a program that gave up to $1500 for new daycares. I think you have to be registered to qualify.

Good luck!

I have a home daycare in Iowa and I would suggest trying the Child Care Resource and Referral for your region. In our region we get 2 free cribs and 5 free nap mats as well as "prizes" every year and when we take training classes. There is also a program called TEACH that will pay for you to continue your education and get a Child Development Associate Degree.

Totally cool that you get nap mats and a crib!

I also mention that the T.E.A.C.H. program does NOT pay for your education. They help contribute to the costs of books, credits, substitute and, or travel costs that financial aide does not cover but only a small portion. It does not cover everything but does help.

It DOES pay you a bonus (dependent on whether you are FCC or CCC) for completing your degree.

I received the T.E.A.C.H. grant for all the sememsters I went to school and it was nice to have a little extra.

I am in PA and have been told repeatedly that grants are not available for start-up unless you are non-profit. Loans, yes. Grants, no. Grants ARE available for [i]improving[i] or updating your business such as new play equipmemt.

If you don't need a lot of $, you could consider a home equity loan. I paid for my college loans that way and got a super low interest and had $22k paid off in 6 years without a huge monthly payment.

I would talk to your licensing agency, and your local resource and referral agency as to where to start. Available grants and such appear to me to vary greatly by area.
