Just curious to know what other areas charge for these two big ticket items..

I just paid $3.71 a gallon for gas = $129.00 to fill my tank I drive a suburban

Milk 2% = $2.99 gallon
whole = $3.19 gallon

I pay $3.19 a gallon for gas right now, Only $41.00 to fill my tank..I drive a Jeep Compass. Commute to work is 14 miles round trip and we drive DH's truck on the weekends so I only have to fill up every 3-4 weeks.

and I pay $2.99 for 1% milk.

I live in MN. I heard today on GMA that we will probably see $5 per gallon gas by this summer.....

2.00/gallon for milk when it's on sale. 2.39 if not on sale.
Not sure on gas, hubby always fills up, so I don't pay attention. I think it's around 3.00 per gallon.

$2.50 for a gallon of milk (normally on sale, sometimes it's a little cheaper. . . we take advantage of Manager's Specials at Kroger's so a lot of times we can get it for closer to $1.79 a gallon if the dates are okay). . . .

Gas. . . closer to $3/gallon although I have not pumped in a while so I don't pay that close attention. . . we also have a Kroger discount so we normally get some of our gas 20 or 30 cents off per gallon.

$4.00ish +/- for a gallon of Organic Horizon whole milk

I drive a Suburban too and every few fill ups my DH makes me put in the 92 octane... and it gets expensive!

My DH had a great point about the 92 octane...hear me out:

At first instinct, it os expensive so you would tend to veer toward the lower octane to save $. Granted.
But, if you consider the benefit to your gas engine that cleaner burning fuel provides, you will find that over the long term your engine will out perform and outlast others who feed cheap fuel to their cars. This can and will save you money over time, offsetting the price difference.

Speaking of price difference, this is the best part:
If 87 octane is $3.59,
90 octane is $3.69 and
92 octane is $3.79 ....then
for 20 cents a gallon you are only paying an extra $3.00 each time you fill up a 15 gallon tank to get the best gas. Compare that to how much an engine rebuild will cost.

$3.08 for the gas now, I fill the full tank about $50 that I drive a jeep grand cherokee in two weeks ago with $2.89 but I haven't drove my jeep for two weeks due to an car accident.

Being a tomboy growing up working on cars I learned that regular octane is recommended for most cars. However, some cars with high compression engines, like sports cars and certain luxury cars, need mid-grade or premium gasoline to prevent your engine from knocking.

Since I drive a boat nothing that had a High compression engine I'm gonna use my 3 bucks for Starbucks!!!

We pay $3.59 a gallon for fuel. Almost $80. For a fill up here in central in. Gas here is about $3.32 a gallon. Milk is $2.39

not to start a heated debate, but my DH is a mechanic, and says 89 octane is just fine.

and both our vehicles are 15 years old, over 200,00 miles, and still going strong.

i'll use my 3 bucks to buy the gallon of milk

2% milk varies from 3.99-4.99 4L (is that a gallon?)

gas a few weeks ago was .97/L but took a jump to 108.9/L I heard a rumor on FB yesterday that it was 115.9/L, but I have to look into that!

I'm in a mid-sized town in Ontario, Canada. I'm paying an average of $5 for a 4 litre bag of 1% milk and gas jumped up to $1.20/litre the other night. Not sure if it's gone up or down overnight.

My dad works for a fuel company that supplies/distributes the fuel to gas stations/airports etc. and his take on the fuel additives and octane ratings are that they are nothing more than a marketing ploy. How YOU (the owner) maintain and drive your vehicle is what really matters and will make the difference.
DH is a schooled mechanic (although he no longer works in the field) and my brothers (one a deisel mechanic and the other a small engine mechanic) all agree, octane ratings are a marketing ploy to make us uneducated consumers think we are buying better when all we are really doing is spending more.

So, YES, save your money for Starbucks...coffeee beans are sure to rise in cost soon too so either way.....
